True, but we'll need to start earlier in the year. If we hire somebody with less than ATP mins, they will need to be at ATP mins AND have their ATP by the time this August ruling takes effect. With the average flight time per month being about 45-70 hours, they'll need to meet those mins before august and run through an ATP course that the company puts together for current FO's before they are dequal'd in August.

I agree totally though, the pay will need to increase substantially (specifically for the FO's, but preferably for both CA and FO) in order to get people to come work here.

Hasn't that been said for years, people will always chase the magical 1000 T-pic.

They are fast to come and bash on people's life/career decisions but they can't spell sh!t. Speaks a lot about the type of people they are. LOL!:p

Out of curiosity, I have to ask the GLA pilots on here if they ever debate how many pilots/ATC'ers on a daily basis in Denver roll their eyes with the constant "SEE YAAAAAAA'S" over the radios? Between pilots and ATC my bet is on 40 pairs during any given "SEE YAAAAAAA" event.

Nope, don't think they care. That's been going on for years between DEN Center and the Lakers... :D

Many times a true "SEE YAAA" is ATC initiated. So who is rolling eyes? SJS pilots who think a "short approach" is a base turn inside of 8 miles?

You need to understand the differences of a small t-prop and an RJ as well as the OPS spec for both. Some companies might require you to be stabilized on you final approach course on speed and sink rate by 1,000 ft, this would require you to complete your turn by around 3 1/2 miles out from the departure end of the runway and if you are going by DME add in another mile or two for runway length is the LOC antenna is on the departure end of the runway (likely) and you are fast approaching 5-6 miles. I am not making any excuses but there is a reason why often ATC fit t-prop (not just lakes) between jets and not the other way around and it has to do with maneuverability. Also some people are just not comfortable with, please respect that is not because they are a lesser pilot, but because they might not do it often and are exercising caution. A pilot who frequents DCA, LGA or even Aspen in a jet might handle the situation differently. There is more to flying than just whipping an aircraft around!

Do any new hire Lakes pilots go directly to the EMB ? If not, what is the typical wait to fly it ?

Agreed. There's a time and place for everything.. I'm DCA based and yes I love circling to 33 all the time or doing the River visual 19. But, at the same time, I can't just throw the boards out and throw the nose to the ground when I'm visual into RIC and they left me at 3,500.... Takes space to dirty up a jet. Try anything too stupid and you'll be doing go-arounds for days(or just kill yourself).

From what I've heard, yes. New hire FOs will go to both the 1900 and the E120. Upgrades on the 1900 are under a year right now...

Upgrade times are similar to GoJet, Silver and Commutair...

I heard GLA likes to place the younger guys into the E120 out of training...

Many times ATC says "See Ya!" on their own out there. I hear it frequently.

Who cares?

I'm sure that your perfect grammar will get you places on the internet. Check your sentence structure.

Dude I speak Spanish, English is my second language.
Of course I will make all kinds of mistakes, and still my English is better than many that speak it as their first language.

It's like the lady that once told me I had an accent, of course I have an accent, I speak 3 different languages, but I don't have an accent in Spanish.
Como habla usted el Español, dejeme ver y comparamos!!:p

Turbine 08-22-2012 02:28 PM

When English is a person's second language, I can understand if they misspell a few words. If a pilot who was born here can not differentiate between their, they're, and there, and not know when to use each of them, I am at a loss. Those are things you learn in elementary school.

And for pete sake, this forum also has a spell check on it !

Something else to learn is proper use of expressions like, "for Pete's sake". Just saying, carry on then.

Surely, you meant:

"You mean "quit!" Why is it that so many pilots can't spell? Why is their grammar lousy? I wonder what kind of errors I'll find on their resumes."

Notice the proper use of quotations, capitalization and punctuation used in my example. I realize my attempt is not perfect. But anyone reading this right now has noticed bad use of the English language on the internet before. We are all guilty, but who cares? This particular forum is a place pilots can go to mix questions, advice, facts, lies and opinions into woven threads of emotion. So yeaahhh.

BenS 08-30-2012 09:51 PM

Well, to bring this thread back from the dead. Any updates? Last I hear is that we're at the National Mediation Board and ask to be released, then as a curtosey to our employer the NMB draggs its feet through mud before they'll release us to our cooling off period. Is it to force binding arbitration over self help? No news? No progress?

OITJ 08-31-2012 02:23 AM

hey ladies and gents, any ideas on where new hires are placed? Does upgrade time take place at ATP mins, or is the wait longer than that?

I have an A & P and would love to subsidize my job by working in a hangar somewhere as well. Do you guys have many days off a month?

Thanks for the info.

Mind if I ask what Equip you got? The EMB junior base is Williston, ND, but the Beech has some different junior bases. I hear Pierre, ND, Farmington, NM and some others seem to go junior. Not sure about how many days off you'll get, again depends on equip and base. But not sure how much you'll be able to do no matter what base you get.

OITJ 08-31-2012 03:39 PM

Is it hard to find housing in those outstations? Or do most guys commute from somewhere else?

Well, I cannot speak for every base, but as for me I live in Las Vegas and commute to Williston. Williston is a unique oil boom town and housing is hard to come by, but people have crash pads everywhere I would guess. Up here we've made sure nobody is on the street and I imagine the attitude is the same everywhere else. A place is something that just seems to settle into place. Between studying, indoc, systems, and sim, being a new hire has so much more troubles than housing at your base once you get there.
