Skyway
To all those who currently work at Skyway (Midwest Connect). I was thinking about applying at Skyway as I am looking for a chance to move back up North but I have a couple of questions. Feel free to add any other info you have about Skyway.
1) What is the QOL for a FO
2) What kind of schedules do you typically get (days off, trip lengths...)
3) Is commuting possible (MSP)
4) How long is the Upgrade
5) Are FO's being hired into both A/C or only the 328
6) Is it a good company to work for
7) How long is reserve for a new hire
Thanks for the help guys.

JESROBER, here are some answers to your questions..
1. QOL for F.O.- the quality of life is OK, not the greatest. B1900 best line was 14 days off (sun-wed working days. 8 legs a day. 83:52 blocked; only line over guarantee) for Jan. 08. 2 with 13 days off, 3 with 11 days off, the rest 10days off, there were 12 hard lines the rest were reserve. the 1900 flying has reduced, since we only keep the airplane for the EAS routes MBL, IMT, ESC, IWD. word on the street is that the b1900 will be gone as early as APRIL.(But who knows how true that is. I personally think it will be summer time by the time the 1900 is gone.
schedules are usually 4 on 3 off sometimes better sometimes not. it's all mixed.
2. DO328, if you get on that you will sit reserve for months to come. And if you interview you will get the 328 class, that is the only A/C that the are hiring into now, since the beech will be retired from our fleet.
36 hard line on the jet and another 15 or so reserve lines, for JAN08. plan to sit reserve for 6 months+++ especially when the 1900 retires all the 1900 guys will transition to the jet.
Best line was 18 days 0ff (working fri, sat, sun not bad.) then few with 16, 15, 14 and son on. Min days off is 10. QOL on the jet is good from my understanding.)
3. commuting from MSP should be easy NWA, Midwest, and now Skywest.
4. future in the company? good question even management claims not to know, but is not the greatest especially with the buyout of midwest by TPG Capital and NWA. But only time could tell maybe it will be good/ or not.
I hope I answered all your questions if you have more please ask.
for the most part OK company to work for GREAT GROUP OF PILOT and I do mean it for all company guys out there reading this. OK work rules. easy way for a quick upgrade. first year fo pay is 19.45 and 1.31 per diem.
I'm a fairly senior FO in the beech, great airplane to fly make you a sharp stick guy/gal. CRAPPY overnights on the beech.
upgrade mins are the standard ATP MINS. 1500 total plus all the other stuff you need for an ATP.
what is your time and where r u coming from (121, CFI?)
there really aren' any mins. at the time they are hiring people with 300+ and very low multi as low as in the teens if not lower.
Good luck and apply.

I got couple questions.
-Is it possible to commute from SNA (SoCal area, i know midwest got some flight out of lax)
-What is the plans for the DO jets, is the company planning to keep them for a long run, or will they be replaced soon? Are they getting more of them?
-Also, will Skywest get more flying, or will the company buy larger ac's

threegreen,
I guess you can commute from lax, that would be a long commute, to MKE. I would consider going somewhere else. Especially, since we do not know what the future holds here, at Skyway. The plans for the Do328 is to keep flying them, our last DO said, "the future plan is to fly 10 of the 12, 1 used for parts, and one as a spare". That's what he told us, but who knows.
There are no plans for anymore A/C at this time. And will Skywest take more routes I'm not sure, I can see that happening. But, maybe a Skywest pilot can answer that question.
BUT, once again only time will tell what will happen once TGP has us, maybe they will buy us bigger A/C, since they do have the $$$. And then we can get some of our old routes back.(LOL) Nevertheless, there will be change in the future but we do not know if it will be good or bad...
