You are kidding right? If not you should be kicked out of professional flying for good.

Call the fire department... I feel it getting warm!

In all seriousness the "regional" market will never get better and the growth into the career path is only limited by keeping jets at the regional level. The -900 is roughly the size of the DC-9-10. Look into the differences in pay and work rules. Do not just look at hourly rates, look into the pension/retirement/QOL that "in theory" goes along with being at mainline vs. a regional.

Let me apologize for jumping you. I see you are a corporate guy.

The more airplanes that mainline flys (small or big) the more mainline jobs there are. So the smaller the regionals are the better a chance for a career job. The perfect time was when the regionals flew nothing but small turbo props and you went from that into a 64-100 seat mainline airplane (DC-9, F-28). The bigger we see the regionals grow the more time we have to spend working for peanuts to get a mainline job.

From what I have heard alot of the Majors have rules governing how many seats a regional can fly and operate for them. Is this not true or are there just some that do and some that dont. I guess republic and shuttle are on the **** list with you guys then seeing as there whole fleet are these new e-jets.

It is called scope. The majors all have different rules in their contracts about the size airplanes (seats, MTOW, etc) that can be operated by a regional. I personally don't have a problem with the guys flying the E-Jets and big CRJ's (I'm one of them). My problem is with these being allowed to be operated as regionals. For the most part those of us flying these want mainline jobs and are just trying to put in our time to get there. There is no way around it. I flew corporate and have 2000 hours jet PIC and friends at several majors. I can't even get an interview and all I keep hearing is we want current 121 time. There are some guys at the regionals who are way to proud of their big shiny jets and think it is great that they can take this flying from mainline. Guys with that attitude are a cancer to the whole industry.

I agree, but an 'official' recession is based off of government numbers...and they've been fudging the numbers for quite some time if you ask me.

Inflation at 3%??? BS! The cost of almost everything I've bought or want to buy has gone up a hell of alot more than 3% a year. Not just the big things either (like education, health care, cars, housing) but the little things as well (like food).

As long as there are short runways, they will be around - perhaps another aircraft but it will have props and a straight wing.
