Upgrading out of seniority can be good, because you get the TPIC ticket punched sooner. But it can also be a QOL issue because all those low-timers you bypass will eventually upgrade on top of you...meaning reserve or bottom-feeder lines for a long time.

But if you don't have any special connections, 1000 hours TPIC at mesa could turn into 10,000 hours TPIC at mesa

No offense but I think that this is a narrow-minded statement. TT alone doesn't mean you'll be an excellent CA, it just gives you something to hang you hat on. Some of the skills needed to be a effective CA can't be learned from flying the line.

Didnt say 3000 would make you a good captain. Just saying i wouldn't want my family in an airplane with a 1500 hr captain and 250 hr FO flying into Boston during winter. I believe flying airliners is an apprenticeship and you cant learn how to be a captain in around a yr unless you come in with alot of previous experience, i.e, the 3000 hr suggestion. just my opinion

Don't get caught up in the numbers, there just numbers. 20,000 hour pilots crash Cessna's & L1011's too. I'm not making an argument for low timers just that TT's not enough.

How does working for these companies damage your profession? They aren't GoJets. Dont listen to this moron!

Damn SKW people sure do think highly of themselves! I agree, neither is a great place to go, by any means. But how is going to TSA a HUGE risk? I understand Mesa, b/c they could be gone anyday, but I don't get TSA. I'm really getting tired of the holier than thou SKW people on these boards.
I do respect for TSA pilots where as I don’t respect GoJet pilots, but if someone wants advice on where to go then TSA will NEVER come up on my list. If you don’t know why then enjoy your SJS and I hope you wake up soon.

Turbine PIC alone won't get you a major airline job these days. If your favorite uncle is the system chief pilot at FDX, it might be worth jumping on any PIC opportunity just to punch the ticket...because you can safely assume that you won't be sticking around.
But if you don't have any special connections, 1000 hours TPIC at mesa could turn into 10,000 hours TPIC at mesa

Two years ago, we wouldn't have said that 1000 hours of TT would guarentee you a job with a regional airline either...And 10 years ago, we'd all expect to be scooped up by a major before we ever got the 1000 TPIC, just never know.

Yes, it’s always been cyclical, some people forget.
