Its certainly a double edged sword. As far as what "happened" to mainline guys.... they screwed themselves..... the were "too good" to fly small jets... AA couldnt even ever come to terms with APA on the F100 much less the F70. Scope was relaxed because the need for lift was there, and mainline pilots wouldnt fly the equipment for the rates the company wanted or needed.... both mgt and the pilots caused the RJ explosion.

Hey Maynard,

Did you get into this career to fly an RJ? This bodes well for your career long term. This is a good sign and a possible reversal from low paid regionals. No offense to RJ drivers, I was there once too except they were called turboprops. I always welcomed mainline on "their" routes. It was "their" flying to begin with and I always thought maybe someday I could fly a mainline airplane.

Regional jobs are poor jobs (literally, as in "where did I put my food stamps?" poor jobs) even AFTER year one. You are at the mercy of your mainline overlords, and just when you think you have a career, you can lose everything overnight, and go straight back to zero, as if you never even had a pilot job. Just look at Midwest Express. I'd be willing to bet there will be some nice juicy corporate bonus checks paid out for that travesty.

Mainline jobs are good career jobs, even in this day and age. When the pay is low, it is only food-stamp low for the first year. As long as you don't get furloughed, your job gets better every year, and you have a true career path to follow.

If people think that SKW is going to be that only regional to have flying upgraded back to mainline then they're in for a very rude wakening.

Although not every line will be upgraded, mainline will cherry pick to improve their profitability and if it doesn’t work out then expect a return of larger regional jets.

I for one am EXTREMELY HAPPY to see the industry turning back in house. I am very excited and I feel that our futures are looking brighter seeing that the overwhelming majority of us have dreams of one day making the move to mainline.

I'm just disappointed because I loved the Eugene overnight! What's it called? The River Valley Inn? Cool hotel! Plus it was another opportunity to do some west-coast flying out of Chicago.

Anyhow, good for mainline United. Disappointed as I am, it's good to see those routes going back to where they belong. Now if they'd only take back YYC-SFO......

None of us care because we only look out for ouselves...... WOW!

Kinda sounds like everyone who says:
over 60s just need to retire
250 hours is enough
I cant wait until my company gets the new 150 seat RJ so I can make $5 an hour more (and fly a bigger, shinier jet)
your regional stole my regional's routes

I don't want to see anybody lose his/her job, but I would rather have half as many jobs making four times the pay (QOL etc.). The regionals should be REGIONAL: Peoria to Chicago, Tyler to Houston, Monterey to SFO not Houston to Philly, MSP to Houston, or Denver to Puerto Vallarta.

This is a result of economics...

Customer demand for frequency vs. Fuel Prices.

Looks like the customers don't want to pay extra for more frequency.

Good News: More mainline Jobs.

Bad News: We will probably lose two regional jobs for every mainline job created...mainline jobs could become even more competetive.

And ticket prices?! Do you mean to say that raising ticket prices is a bad thing? You do realize that's how companies make money and as a result how you get paid.

Your entire statement shows how new you are. Unless of course you have already decided to be an RJ lifer and want to work under second tier wages and work rules forever.

Wake up.

Passengers could not give a Rats Posterior about DELAYS.. the average passenger wants to get on expedia or travelocity and pay wal-mart prices and get sacks fifth ave treatment I could not care less about the Delays we get paid by the MIN block or better baby, the truth of the mattter is every one is looking out for themself passengers too often have this entitlement mentality management dont really care about labor in this free market economy the consumer cant have it both ways either they can get fewer mainline flights or they can have choices and have more RJ frequency, ok just my 2cents RANT OFF
