I know because my wife ran an HR Staffing company in SDF before we relocated to PHX. Everyone at that company works 50+ hr weeks while my wife was working 60+ and only making $50K. Today she’s with a different company making twice that but with four times the responsibility and stress all while still working 60+ hour weeks. She’ll end up a VP of HR soon but at what price? 60+ hour weeks filled with stress. Yes she gets weekends and weeknight’s at home but her mind is always on her job, constantly thinking about tomorrow. No thanks, I average 16 days off while only spending about 5 evenings away from home with NO STRESS and I’m never thinking about my next day of work, when I am it’s because I had 7 days off in a row and I’m itching to fly.

I spent 5 years in the business world working 60+ hours weeks and yes I made twice what I made my first year in the airlines but by my second year I was making my previous salary plus commissions. I’m much happier today!

I made $28,500 my first year, $52K my second and I'm expecting around $70K+ my third. Not that that's great but it will continue to increase.

My brother in-law runs Humana's printing department, which it took him 5 years to be promoted to after completing college and he makes $48K. My sister is a Systems Analysis for Humana; she spends 50+ hour weeks in a cubical and makes $60K after 8 years of service.

You can have those jobs, enjoy! BTW, almost all entry level jobs suck and pay very little. That's why their entry level!

PS. All the above jobs are in Louisville, KY; different markets pay different rates. But to compensate for the lower wages than say PHX, the cost of living is MUCH cheaper in SDF than PHX. Trust me I’ve lived in both cities.
Outstanding post JetJock! At least someone here has some common sense and knows what the corporate world is like.

It is precisely the attitude like yours that allows the airlines to cut the pay in half and get away with it without any consequences. While the airlines have been posting profits, our pay has been steadily decreasing. Thanks to naive pilots like you this business is headed to being nothing other than a ``Greyhound ``and please! Will people stop giving examples of how little others make? Sure, we make more than just entry-level corporate gig, but on the other hand I make more working part-time as an architectural drafter than working full time as a pilot. I love flying but I am forced to get out this business simply because I end up working on the days off to make a living. Hopefully you will make that 70K next year, but you better hope that nothing happens to your airline because as you as pilot changing jobs means back to square and 20K comes with it.

Are you serious? You think that I'm the reason why regional pay so low? BTW, when has our pay at the regionals decreased? Yes Mesaba's and Comair’s did but their companies either went bankrupt or were on the verge. Other than that; did SKW, XJT, ASA and RAH take pay cuts in the last 20 years. NO! Now if you're counting inflation then EVERYONES pay has and is decreasing every year, office workers included.

At no point did I say that I like getting paid poorly and at no time did I justify our pay rates. Yes we deserve more but to say that a cubicle job is better than ours when they make less or equal money with more stress and (in most cases, that is those who are very successful) work long/er hours, is absurd. I'll give you a bit of advice; get off you high horse, stop attacking others, have a little more respect for others and stop assuming the worst. Your position is correct but your attacks are ridiculous, it shows your narrow-mindedness as well as your ignorance.

BTW, that’s your opinion and I respect it. You know what they say, “Opinions are like ass-holes, everyone’s got one;” but I think you’re just coming off as the complete ass.

No offense and good day.

WOW. GREAT FIND!

I can't remember when last I laughed so hard. I think it's a tie between the photocopy and the sledgehammer to the PC (haven't we all been there).
