Im an XJT FO. Last month I credited 92 hours. Had 16 days off. Depends though on what you do yo get it. You have to know the contract, what you can do with it etc... This month, 3 weekends off and so far this month I have been off for 9 days total...not too bad!

Quick question for those of you flying for a regional. Is there enough "down" time during a flying day to get 3 - 4 hours of billable computer work in on a regular basis? I am thinking of pursuing a flying career and I am about a year a way from being a competitive candidate but I am concerned about income levels during the first few years. I have a skill set that would allow me to make enough money on the side as to not take a substantial hit if I can count on getting 20 billable hours in a week. In your opinion is this possible?

That shouldn't be a problem...from my experience, most overnights are in the 13-18 hr range (I fly mosty the -700, the -200 can vary more). If you take 8 hours of sleep, and a bit of time to un-wind and eat, you should have plenty.

As long as you are flexible that should not be a problem. A typical 3-4 day trip gives me at least one long 16+ layover. With 2-day trips I am home part of every day. I can almost always have time to grab a workout, check out a new place, and grab dinner and a drink and still get 8-9 hours of solid sleep on a single trip. Some nights though are 8 on the ground so its straight to the hotel for the pillow "faceplant" followed by the "wake up before the sun" routine. Of course your experience and company may vary!

Been there and done that last October! I love PBS...only took me about a year of mistakes to figure it all out.
