Their training in the past has been criticized but they have done some overhauls and now their failure rate is 1 or 2 per class. The work rules aren't the greatest but they pay you in training, put you up in a mo-hotel, and fly the crap out of you when you get online. It may be a place to bide your time while holding out for SKW (worked for me), or you may just want to wait until SKW starts hiring again. That said SKW loves people from other airlines because they can actually fly the jet on the first day of IOE.
I'm not so sure about Trans States.......Even if they have improved training. I see your point however. I guess what it comes down to is do I want to risk getting stuck at a regional I wouldn't really want to be at for very long for multiple reasons, or do I continue instructing and hold out for a better regional where I would not have a difficult time sticking with them should things drastically change in the industry.

Good luck. Ive found that letting go of a need to control my whole career was a good attitude shift to help make working for an airline acceptable.
I have strongly considered going to ASA, but I have heard that to commute from SLC to ATL costs around $50 a week due to some new changes Delta made. I am not exactly sure though. I like the fact that they have a new contract, and some of the better work rules and pay when it comes to regionals. I don't like that they only have one domicile, and I can't really see myself living in ATL...but you never know, I have never been outside the airport there! I may be making a snap judgment.
I have also read on these forums that the reserve times are getting long and that new pilots aren't flying very much? Atleast I think it was ASA I was reading about.

I agree with you about saying you need to control you whole career. I think you just need to make the best possible decision you can based on the information you have at the time and hope for the best. I definitely tend to over think things sometimes in retrospect. These boards sure do help.

You have to pay a $50 fee annually to be able to list, but if you are commuting you will still be able to ride for free. If you are actually listing for the back it may end up costing you though. Take it from me though the SLC-ATL commute would get really old really fast. Is the CRJ the appeal there? A commute to ORD would work out for you, but going out of your time zone east means you will spend a lot of nights in a crash pad.

What are your times? What about XJT? They have west coast bases too.

.

It no longer cost Skywest or ASA pilots to ride on Delta. Doesn't matter where you sit. The pay per segment fee is gone

I'll have to find out what this guy was talking about then...he made it sound like a guy that was commuting right now from slc to atl was having to cough up an average of $50 a week make it happen. The Jet really has nothing to do with my decision, if anything the appeal of the jet for me would be less legs and more pay. The draw to ASA for me would be the work rules and the slightly higher pay rates. My times are about 750/25 so the multi time is what is hurting me right now. Express would probably be my second choice aside from Skywest, but I had heard that they are not really hiring that much. Plus the losses they posted this last year kind of makes me wonder...

The Atlanta area will probably be a big disappointment to anyone coming from the west: too many people, traffic, filthy air and other assorted problems that a westerner may not really like being a part of.

That said, it seems like ASA is a good place to be. We're positioned well for growth and have some pretty shrewd, well financed people behind us...and a contract.

Good luck, let me know if there's any ASA specific info I can get you. I'm in training now and having a great time.
