Which Regionals are still hiring a lot of pilots?

Trans States is purchasing more EMB 145's from MESA, and their pilot group has lots of movement due to attrition as well. It is a one leg commute from SLC on SkyWest (Delta CRJ700) and Southwest (a major plus for any commute). Their training in the past has been criticized but they have done some overhauls and now their failure rate is 1 or 2 per class. The work rules aren't the greatest but they pay you in training, put you up in a mo-hotel, and fly the crap out of you when you get online. It may be a place to bide your time while holding out for SKW (worked for me), or you may just want to wait until SKW starts hiring again. That said SKW loves people from other airlines because they can actually fly the jet on the first day of IOE.
I have also read on these forums that the reserve times are getting long and that new pilots aren't flying very much? Atleast I think it was ASA I was reading about.
I agree with you about saying you need to control you whole career. I think you just need to make the best possible decision you can based on the information you have at the time and hope for the best. I definitely tend to over think things sometimes in retrospect. These boards sure do help.

I have strongly considered going to ASA, but I have heard that to commute from SLC to ATL costs around $50 a week due to some new changes Delta made. I am not exactly sure though. I like the fact that they have a new contract, and some of the better work rules and pay when it comes to regionals. I don't like that they only have one domicile, and I can't really see myself living in ATL...but you never know, I have never been outside the airport there! I may be making a snap judgment.

What are your times? What about XJT? They have west coast bases too.

You have to pay a $50 fee annually to be able to list, but if you are commuting you will still be able to ride for free. If you are actually listing for the back it may end up costing you though. Take it from me though the SLC-ATL commute would get really old really fast. Is the CRJ the appeal there? A commute to ORD would work out for you, but going out of your time zone east means you will spend a lot of nights in a crash pad.

It no longer cost Skywest or ASA pilots to ride on Delta. Doesn't matter where you sit. The pay per segment fee is gone

The Atlanta area will probably be a big disappointment to anyone coming from the west: too many people, traffic, filthy air and other assorted problems that a westerner may not really like being a part of.
That said, it seems like ASA is a good place to be. We're positioned well for growth and have some pretty shrewd, well financed people behind us...and a contract.
Good luck, let me know if there's any ASA specific info I can get you. I'm in training now and having a great time.

I see how you chime in on so many posts about the "gloom and nightmare" that is the life of a regional pilot, but you aren't one.......... So stop chiming in and b*tching how aweful it is until you really know!!!
