If you don't carry yourself well...you don't belong in any uniform...

Agreed with Experimental, some of it has to do with how you carry yourself, the other half of the coin is whether or not you take any pride in the way you look. And yes, those white hats looked "pimp" to say the least.

Wearing the hat of kilter, isn't as popular anymore, partially because while it looked "cool" for a world war II film, doesn't look the part anymore, and yes, you probably would get laughed at behind your back. On the contrary, i'm doing my best to get my hat to do the 50 mission crunch, as i do still think that looks vedy nice.

If you wanna choose the uniform, buy the company.

It may seem trivial, but the uniform helps establish our identity as a distinct group, aside from society at large. The public WANTS to believe we are all highly professional (even if we know the occasional lapses occur), and they like to see us appear so.

On an related note, I just got 20 shirts back from the cleaner's and they forgot to crease my sleeves!

Oh, I wear the clip-on, I don't really think anyone can tell unless they can see the clip (they can't on mine), and I wear it because I can remove it easily during pushback.

Ha, I knew that was coming!

We get a uniform allowance every year, and at the end of the year, if I haven't used it, (I'll lose it), I get shirts and pants. Over the years, I've accumulated quite a few shirts. I do throw some out, from time to time, if they start to look 'off-white'. I like having a big stock of shirts, since it cuts down on trips to the dry cleaner's, and doesn't cost me any more, anyway. I'm PO'ed now, since I have to iron my freakin' sleeves before every work day! I think the sleeve crease is mandatory, or it should be anyway! Dry cleaning day is the one time I miss our QX pre-contract days. Back then, 100% of dry cleaning was covered by the company. Now we get a pittance for that.

Now where did I see this stylish garment, was it a Prince video, the movie "Mad Max", or maybe it was an episode of Knight Rider....and people give me crap for wearing my hat.
