hahaha spooled. you have to be the most pesemisticly paranoid person working at pinnacle.

you sound scared to death of pc's, sick calls, ftg, base managers, hotels, vans, rsv, hair, check airmen, etc, etc..

like norksman said pncl is what you make of it. i am only at work 1/3 of the month, i don't let this place get my panties in a bunch. when its time to strike, i am just as ready and willing as everyone else to walk out and find a new place to go. till then i will do my job and nothing more.

So do you think things at Pinnacle aren't always as bad as Spooled up described?

And while you paint a nasty picture, it still looks better than my current job.

I'm not scared of anyone. This place is a crappy place to work. A new contract would that this place 10 times better. Too many people just don't care, or are too lazy to care. At least more and more people are getting fed up. Which is a good thing, because they realize we are at the bottom of the barrel.

As I stated, its all in the companies scare tactics. And I feel bad for the new guys who have to put up with it.

The less people who come work here = the sooner we get a contract.

Quality of life and work place is different for everyone. I'm not sure how there can be any qualify of life in Memphis. Everyone has different standards.

Well the it hardly sounds like you have an objective opinion when people that are looking into the company ask for advise.

Anybody else have any insights on what life is like at Pinnacle?

Here goes...You must understand, there will be much pessimism because of how the business is running currently. We are now next to last in on-time performance, morale IS at an all time low (or at least at its lowest point I've seen), and while it's anyone's guessing game, we no longer seem to be fixing our aircraft. Maint. is sketchy at best...in the last month I personally have had 2 instances of very questionable legality concerning maintenance. I got both instances on record as being questioned by the PIC--all I could do short of denying the flight. I consider a good plane now anything with less than 3 MEL's...it is becomming a rarity. My personal schedule for Feb-the most recent completed month to be fair-I was reduce to 6 days off of work... to non-pilots, this doesn't look too bad...to those who actually do the job and see you kids/wife only 6 times in a month, it's terrible. In January, sched. tried to simply remove a day off (coded RDO) and force me to work since they could not contractually extend or jr.man me, and then they acted clueless until I eventually had to talk to the scheduling manager who corrected it after asking if I was willing to do it! It has been worse lately and hopefully it will return to at least a tolerable level. I do like my job (pilot) but I can't imagine the company getting much worse without shutting the doors. Also, for some perspective, as an fo life was much better...two buddies of mine who were CA's here both recently quit and not for a major or a job that was a step up...just to get out of the company's web. Also, neither are flying anymore and both think I'm crazy for sticking it out...which I will in hopes I can jump ship...mass resumes printing. I think the philosophy from the company is that a CA is less likely to leave if you treat them bad because of the money, and they may be right...To sum up, FO life for me was good...CA life is not life...your life revolves around work. If I was in your shoes, I would definately choose another place if possible. Not knowing what the pilot job market is like in DTW, if PNCL is your only option, come on in! I'm sure you could tolerate it if you have to.
I will add, think about why the upgrade is quick here...we aren't getting more planes...people hate this place bad enough to leave flying altogether. Everyone thinks they are the exception that will get their time and move on... I counsel anyone nowdays to go to the regional that you could spend the rest of your life at as a CA for them and hope you can move on, but DON'T bank that you will be here for 1000 PIC and out...it just doesn't happen unless daddy works somewhere that's hiring.

EXACTLY!!!

Why do you think ALPA is paying 50% of the admission fee for our captains to attend AIR INC job fairs.

If you aren't assigned DTW, for whatever reason, then yeah you shouldn't have any problem getting and holding DTW. It's our most junior base.

I would have to agree with Spooled. I have been here just over a MONTH and have experienced all of these issues and MORE..

We have a required 48 hour training notification period. 20 hours prior, crew TRAINING, not scheduling, calls me "hey just wanted to let you know about a training even tomorrow"

I firmly asked her (won't say her name, but starts with a J) "What about my 48 hour notification time?" She responded as if she had said it 80 times that DAY "Are you refusing an assignment?" ....::sigh:: "nooooo, I'll be there" If I wasn't a new hire you better believe I would have told her to SHUV it because I ended up losing 3 AWESOME flying days worth about 16 hours... I would already be in upgrade class thanks to that shananagans (LOL I know I didn't spell that right!)

Am I happy? Happier than on Corporate reserve at home 24/7/365 and them calling a day you didn't fly your day OFF.... yeah, I don't think so!

How did that happen? Contractually you have 10 and if they did extend you into 1 you would still have 9. If you are a lineholder they can't extend you into a day off.. Not saying you are wrong- just curious what circus of events led to 6 days!
