When was the last time Comair and Delta spent money (train pilots) when they didn't have to?

That's why you guys are hiring 100 FOs?

It's closer to 200 but yes. I'd think the upgrade would drop as we have so many FO's and not enough Captains to go around, but what do I know. I'm just a lowly FO

Wow Tristar I thought you were talking about XJT for a moment. Same thing...overstaffed on FOs...CAs getting junior manned and abused.

Sling Air is right. The regional on top today, will not be on top tomorrow. Everytime it looks really good for a regional, something happens and another one moves up. That is why regionals are time-builders. I don't care how good my company's contract or pay is because that is all subject to change.

The word regional or airline industry do no go together with the word stable.

Also, Comair is not the most stable regional! Don't get all excited and wet your pants, just because we are looking to hire 300 pilots...

I agree, cancelling classes.... that shows a little trouble.... I think all are at risk, it is how they manage the risk and plan for the worst. That is what will help keep one alive.

Piedmont, IMHO, we're hiring like crazy, no one except for a Wolf type would try and get rid of T-props right now. While there is talk of getting new planes there is definately no talk of us going out of business. I was thinking about a lateral move to try and get a quicker upgrade, but i think i'll hang tight for the time being given the uncertainty ahead.

Its not about the "300 pilots" thing... but we have stabley and consistantly been hiring for a while now, things slow, things pick up but it is pretty stable vs. places that hired ALL these people SO QUICK.... HIRE HIRE HIRE and now are talking about voluntary leaves, furloughs etc.... things have been pretty "constant" another thing is that the airline has a big foundation "ground handling bla bla bla" its not just a pilot company like many of these other regionals

Well Eagle still hiring 2 classes a month 30 people in each. Now APA goes on strike and AMR ends up in Ch7 all bets off. Also, I guess the official unofficial word is we are not being divested anymore.

I will have to agree with Paok. Comair is more conservative in hiring people. Growth is also conservative at Comair which makes less unstable than the other airlines that hire 1,000,000 pilots in hopes of growth, and then cancel classes and furlough. A lot of people complain about the slow growth at Comair. But we all have seen the companies that go growth crazy and then end up cutting back or going out of business, or even worse, being a MESA like company. I would go with a company that will provide you with the best QOL and easiest commute. Any company can go away, look at Eastern, PanAm, TWA, and Aloha.

By far Colgan Air, at least it seemed to be very stable before I left back in late January.
Any regional company with turboprop service looks to have a lot of growth.

In comparison, any regional with 50-seat RJs should be weary. Not trying to be insulting, but the days of 50-Seat Regional Jets flying mainline routes are numbered.
