I don't follow. If thats the case, then why are there different payscales for different years and seats on different A/C?

What hes talking about is that just because you are a RJ FO it doesnt mean you make RJ pay. Its based on senority. For exmple (disclaimer: numbers made up because Im to lazy to go at look at the FO pay groups right now) There are 105 qualified RJ FO's and 150 qualified 400 FO's The most seinor 105 FO's get the Rj payscale, then the next 150 FO's get 400 pay, and currently the rest are on the 200 payscale. Also remember that lets say your the 105th guy from the top and 1 guy in the rj upgrades. There is now only 104 qualified FO's tada HELLO you just got bumped back to 400 pay. Surprise and enjoy.

It all depends on what you mean by stability...

Short Term Stability, over the next couple of years?
- Stable relationship with all major partner(s)
- No financially endangered (ie BK) major partners.
- Plenty of cash on hand...lenders are NOT putting out right now...if you get in trouble, you will have to bail yourself out (unlike 2001-2007).

If you're looking for Long Term Stability (ie career destination), then you have a different set of criteria:
- Large: In case anyone hadn't noticed, size matters and large airlines (both regional and major) are the future. There are a few niche markets for national airlines (ie allegiant), but there is no benefit at all to being a small regional.
- Multiple Major Partners...diversity is critical if something bad happens.
- The Expertise and Experience to acquire new contracts, and implement them. This is another place where small companies tend to suck...mom, pop, and bubba have a hard time running the operation they already have, to say nothing of starting up new operations...
- Good, conservative management track record.
- Larger RJ's...the more, the better.

Actually if you want Long Term Stability, better get a job at a major.

Maybe Im just slow. But it seems to me, that if I have X amount of years with the company, and Im CA or FO in a given type of airplane, I should make what the amount per hour that my seniority and seat in the given A/C type as per the contract says.

Not so at Horizon. The aircraft that you are hired into as a new hire is the aircraft you stay in thoughout your Horizon FO career. There is no switching of aircraft. Therefore a senior FO that flys the Dash 8-200 gets paid RJ pay. A junior RJ pilot gets paid Dash 8-200 pay. Confused yet?
