In a nut shell, what is Comair's commuter clause???

When commuting, you must list yourself for at least 2 flights, the latter of which must be scheduled to arrive at domicile at least 1/2 hr. prior to schedule report time. The departure time of the earlier flight must be at least 1 hr. prior to the departure time of the later flight. If the flight is late, canceled, or you couldn't get on because of loads, you will have to call crew scheduling. That doesn't mean you are off the hook and go back home.

How does Comair schedule reserve?? Do you need to be within so many miles/hours of your domicile? I read some previous posts where pilots have been on reserve and they hardly fly. Is CVG a junior or senior base? Where are the domiciles for comair?

The only bases we have are CVG and JFK. One reserve, there is a 1.5 hr. callout for CVG and 2 hrs. for JFK on short call. Long call is 9 hrs. and 12 hrs. The JFK guys haven't been flying very much on reserve over the last few months, but that should change here come summer. You'll probably average around 40-50 hrs./month on reserve in CVG (CRJ200).

Checkout of your hotel prior to leaving for Comair and bring your bags with you. The best hotel deal I think was Baymont Inn at about $40 for the night with free shuttle service and breakfast. I know a lot of people stay at the Holiday Inn, but its about $20 more. I'm still a poor CFI (soon to be FO) Comair has a shuttle that runs every hour from Corporate HQ to the Terminal.

Relatively speaking, is Comair one of the better, middle or worst regionals to work for? Pro's and Con's?

One person's opnion of Comair could be a lot different than someone else, it really depends on what you're looking for. As far as contract/pay goes I think it's safe to say Comair is toward the top of the regionals, not the best but far from the worst. I would suggest skimming through the "Comair Updates" thread or using the search function to find out other specific information to base your opinion on the company.

I'd say Comair used to be one of the better because of good pay scales, work rules, aircraft we fly, etc. Now that there is so much whoring out at Delta Connection (ie Mesa, Skywest, Pinnacle) we have pay that's pretty much regional standard. I would have to say that Comair has treated me well, we stay in good hotels (same as Delta pilots), we're ALPA, and have an all jet fleet. Being based in the midwest (CVG) is nice too.

The grass is only greener as you get close to the septic tank when it comes to regional airlines.

I'm trying to figure if that comment was "tongue in cheek?" (the cheeks on ones face) If it's not how many regionals have you worked for where you can compare and make a statement like that with credibility?
