Flying an Embraer 175 from PHL to State College PA just doesn't make sense. Flying a Dash from PHL to State College makes all the sense in the world.
Turboprops are far and away more economical than a jet for shorter routes (they burn about 40% less fuel/pax than an rj for many shorter hops). But even if the Dash is completely phased out, PDT will get jets to replace every DHC-8 plus many more. AAL has many plans for PDT and, trust me, none of them involve shutting the company down.
