Man you have no idea, I have been where you want to be, flying dirty Mesa airplanes for slave labor. I was exectly like you, in fact I probably did come on this site back a year ago defending places like Mesa. The fact is very soon, some in about a month or two, after the dust settles you will realize that flying airliners is just a job and that feeling cool doesn't pay the bills or justify your $hitty qol. I know at this point that absoutely makes no sense to you because you equate it to a 172 vs a CRJ but trust me and others who are trying to give you advice who have already been there and done that. Hang in there and CFI because I 100% guarantee once you get the flight time for a regional where you actually WANT to be as apposed to "get your foot in", you will swithc and will have to put up with another airline training event and all the problems that brings. No one is making life decisions for you, only you can do that. |

Mesa? Read UND's post one more time there, junior...I'm lousy seniority in base here and I'm still enjoying 80 hours and 17 days off in August. The best part is my time at home is mine. Back the thread, if seniority is everything, why would someone want to spend another year in a C172 when it takes 1000 TPIC to apply for the majors and nationals, where someone would want to have the earliest seniority number possible? The stepping stone regional & CFI jobs are wasting time if not on the shortest possible path to 1000 TPIC. You might not get hired at the dream job even with 1000 TPIC, but the answer is a definite "no" until meeting the mins. If, hypothetically, a pilot were to survive Mesa for a year without getting fired, frustrated, furloughed, or the 1000 TPIC, wouldn't they be around to fight for block or better, commuting clause, and some other QOL improvements to go from industry lagging to industry leading? Or is fighting for something you want not allowed at the regional pilot level? Maybe the fat girl likes it in the rear knowing she's going to be giving it in the rear soon. |

The reason you hear things like "your lowering the bar" and "thanks for supporting the race to the bottom" is because Mesa has one of the worst pay scales in the regionals. Other companies see this and see all the wide-eyed kids out there with SJS who don't care about the pay or the qol or the contract or its management flocking to Mesa because its an easier "foot in the door" (I WAS ONE OF THEM AND REGRET IT!!!!) which gives them potent ammunition to attempt to lowball their own pilots. Its a major reason why we ALL get paid nowhere near what we should as pilots. I'm not here to dash hopes, to "bash" Mesa wannabes or to act like an "aviation god". Just trying to focus some eyes that are otherwise like a deer in headlights with a shiny new CRJ in its sights. I know it looks MUCH more glamorous than a 172 with supposed bragging rights, but its not like your going from AAA ball to "The Show" making a move to an airline. It doesn't work that way AT ALL |

I'm giving up a year seniority to leave Mesa and go to SkyWest. It will actually be more like 1.5 years if and when SkyWest starts running classes again. If I would have instructed longer I could have gone to them sooner and been building seniority with them. Just the other night I was on reserve 12am-12pm then got a call I was flying to Cincinnati at 10pm and then flying back to JFK. We ended up landing at 3 am, yes a 15 hour duty day, but I had commuted in that day so it was more like a 20 hour day. 3 hours of credit......sweet... and thanks Mesa!

When I was in high school, I had a friend who decided to put diesel in his GAS-burning truck instead of gas because it was slightly cheaper. Why Mesa is the only airline hiring now? Why you never hear anything positive about Mesa? Why did Mesas stock get delisted from the NASDAQ and is trading at $00.40? Why is Mesa being sued by several airlines? Why does Mesa have the highest turnover of Pilots in the industry? Why Mesa does not guarantee pay for cancelled flights? If your flight gets cancelled, you do not get paid as a pilot. Why does Mesa pay historical block only? That means if the flight pays 2 hours and it ends up being a 5 hour flight because of a meltdown at JFK, you get paid 2 hours for 5 hours of work. Not listening to the advice of people who know is pure ignorance. |
