I'm hopeful recalls in general might start next spring. I think the economy is bottoming and by late year, the market will begin moving slightly higher. Recovery usually lags the market by a few months. I could be wrong, but I just have the sense that lower oil will mitigate inflation costs for the consumer. It will also make life much easier for the airlines. It's Friday, why can't I be hopeful?

I am number two from the top (most senior) on the involuntary furlough list. My hire date was 11/25/07 and all in my class got furloughed.

There were many pilots senior to me who took voluntary LOA or furlough and I sincerely thank them for that. There are also 60 some odd pilots below me and I hope all of them can either stick it out and get recalled sooner than later, or find something better to move on to.

It looks like about 190 pilots (not furloughed) will be displaced from their current domicile and/or position.

I am just waiting to see if they have any forecast for when and how pilots will be recalled. Then I can move on from there. I am hopeful, but not stupid.

It was a fun ride while it lasted!

If you are only two from the top of the list I would think you might make the 9/1 cut still. We will have some pilots pulling the plug on this when they are forced to go to LGA or commute etc.

Attrition still exists so I would hang in there and if you are willing to be the bottom pilot in one of the bases you might be able to not get furloughed. 9/1 is still a month + away.

Agreed. You may never get furloughed. Or it may be short. You might be lucky and get a couple months of vacation.

A month or two off from work and responsibility would be nice, but anything longer than that and I will need to look for something else to do. We get 90 days of AWAC travel benefits, so I will probably just go sit on the beach in Florida for a while.

I never thought I would be looking forward to holding a reserve line at LGA until now...

I may be one of the ones calling it quits as well. I got to keep my same position and domicile albeit I think 5 spots more junior. Depending on how terrible the lines keep getting will be the deciding factor on if I stay or get out of this industry all together. Only so many 1 and 2 day trips backed up to 3 and 4 days that are uncommutable on both sides a man can take before he gets fed up. The United RFP more than likely isn't going to happen but management wants to dangle it like a carrot in front of us to help us "compete to win". It will be interesting to see how many of us can stand up and refuse junior mans and picking up open time come Sept. I for one will do neither. Good luck guys and getting furloughed could be a blessing in disguise.

Exactly. These owners want a way out...not into more flying. I think it's pretty obvious when you examine the fact that the pilot group has basically been cut in half over the last 10 years.

I don't believe that for a second. Number one, you weren't here 10 years ago to even say what was happening with AWAC. Number two, until this furlough we had more pilots than we've had in a long time, if ever, and number three. We are'nt even close to being down to "half of the pilots" we had. Number four, they have been doing nothing but pouring money into IT and numerous other issues. Doesn't sound like they want out to me.

Your pessimism and winning attitude sure as hell won't do anything productive for us here.
