Final furlough #'s at AWAC out today! :(

I got so lucky and didn't get moved at all. I thought for sure I would lose DC. I am probably going to be hitting up ready reserve but that is ok. I am glad I still have a job. I am really sorry for those guys who got the axe. I would love to help you guys/gals out as much as I can to get you back as quickly as possible. Keep your head up!

I say.......we buy up all of RAH's shiny new 170's that are parked in PIT.....and strip out a few of the CRJ's and fly contract cargo for someone...eliminating the need to furlough

It almost makes sense when you think about it.....Mgmt. says that we have the money for new planes but we cant sell our 200's because nobody wants them.
Uncle Doug likes the 70 seaters...hates the 50 seaters
and the 200 could probably handle cargo pretty well considering its size.

I don't believe that for a second. Number one, you weren't here 10 years ago to even say what was happening with AWAC. Number two, until this furlough we had more pilots than we've had in a long time, if ever, and number three. We are'nt even close to being down to "half of the pilots" we had. Number four, they have been doing nothing but pouring money into IT and numerous other issues. Doesn't sound like they want out to me.
Your pessimism and winning attitude sure as hell won't do anything productive for us here.

AWAC has had around 1000 pilots on the seniority list this decade. With this furlough we are down into the 600's. That's where my comment about cutting out almost half the pilots came from. And come on man...pouring money into IT??? How about investing all that money that they made on USAir stock into bigger airplanes? Nope...they spent that on their new investment in Hotels. I guess it's true that people only see what they want to see.

Iv'e been here close to a decade and the most I've ever seen is about 800-850. I know people that have been here the full decade and they never saw 1000. Either way it's far from half.

The most we have had active on the list at one time has been about 800-850. We are shrinking, and I am nervous about that, but we are reducing by 11% right now, not 50% from a high.
The poster is right though. We went from 87 airplanes to 70. And now a further 11% staff reduction.
Economies of scale are lost and the company has not got much of a record since I got here 4.5 years ago.

You may very well be right. Obviously I haven't been here for the entire decade so I can't say for sure. I do know several guys that have been here through it though and they have thrown out that 1000 number. Maybe they were inflating it a bit...who knows? Either way, I'm not trying to start a pi**ing match here. Like I said earlier, I would love to see this company grow. I just don't want to be a pollyanna about it.
