Things r different now jumpseating,let me explain before we use to fill out a jumpseat form go and introduce ourselves to the crew and wait to be seated. Now with the CASS the gate agents check the credentals give them a seat assingment "on a jumpseat pass" and we the crew never knows that there is a jumpseater from another airline in the back.
This captain who is going to ruin it for the whole airline and not allow any jumpseaters from that airline on his craft. well thats his right and i dont agree with it however something bad had to transpire for this to happen. We well never know. I have only kicked one person out of my office in the past 8 years and the reason being was that he was very confrontational and argumative. I pulled back to the gate told him I will need him to get off due to safety reasons i cant allow him the jumpseat. He got off I talked to a CP and that was it.
If he would just kept his mouth closed and enjoyed his ride home he would have made it for christmas eve dinner. By the way we was from mainline our mother company.

As a CAPTAIN, one has the "right" to deny anybody you want, but you also have the responsibility to use some of that command authority bestowed upon you and not tolerate a particular individual abusing their privilege for a free ride onboard YOUR airplane.
Folks, airlines have Jumpseat Committees for a reason...use them.

I agree to with you! all i was saying is thats it is more difficult now to pick out other jumpseaters from other airlines.
I would never make a whole airline suffer for one persons stupidity.
This happened to me about 7 years ago I requested a jumpseat on our parent company and was denied. The reason Oh you hurt our airline for 89 days! jumpseat is now broken. time you tell anyone about this your flight has left! I dont hold grudges I am easy to get along with. Where did the profesionalism go ????
I would never make a whole airline suffer for one persons stupidity.

When I jumpseat I always introduce myself to the FA in the front and ask if she minds if I ask for a ride. They always say not at all, go ahead. I knock on the cockpit door before going in and address the guys as gentleman and introduce myself to captain and FO and ask if they mind if I catch a ride. They've always said sure and ask if I have a seat in back or up front. If I am sitting in back, I tell them where and I always tell them that if they or the FAs need anything I'd be more then happy to help in any way I can. When I get off the plane, I am sure to thank the entire crew for the ride.
I also let the crew know when I am deadheading as well. They appreciate it when you tell them you are there.
Nothing makes me madder then guys who get on acting like the own the world (and they are more often the mainline guys sadly) or when they don't say anything at all. It grates me because I go through the effort (and it does not take much) to do it right.
Lets do it right guys. Show that while we may be regional guys, we are still classy professionals worthy of respect.

My belief is that the jumpseat shouldn't be used as a weapon to punish a whole airlines employees over something one person did. This petty issue of denying everyone from said airline is just going to start bad blood between the two airlines, and is something that is not needed in our industry.

Ya know I actually feel sorry for these rude individuals!
After all, it is not their fault they don't know how to behave or even grasp the concept of professionalism or common courtesy, It's their parents!

when I worked at S5 I ALWAYS checked with the CA when JS'ing.... I also DH'ed alot.... and that was usually situationally dependent. I would if the opportunity presented itself.... but if I was lugging my rollerboard and my flightcase.. and the flight was full and pax behind me to board.... usually just took my seat. Always tried to thank the crew in either case however when getting off.
