Did anyone indicate how long and how many more pilots Mesaba plans to hire? I'm supposed to start class there on the 17th.

Apparently about 500 pilots all the way till next year. Based on your class date, you should be in the first 100 of those 500 people. Probably somewhere near 80 - 100. We can talk more about this on the Mesaba thread or PM me if you want more info.

You're missing the point. The return on investment is done after year two. You've paid for yourself and made them money. After that, it is cheaper to pay a new hire to do your job. They don't really care if your 250 hours, or 1700 hours. Their concern is that you pass training, and hopefully will leave in a few years. That being the case, they are better off with people who have 1,000 plus hours when hired, since those are the ones that will be marketable to other places in a few years.... they also have already demonstrated the ability to pass a 121 training program. They are a much better risk.

Why is eagle so preoccupied with hiring people that can pass a training event? Sure every airline has this in mind but eagle is so obvious about it, not sure how much harder you can make an ERJ training when everything is either auto or off.

What's this.... if we can't keep em.... we'll just break em???

NTSB IdentificationDFW08CA215
Scheduled 14 CFR Part 121 Air Carrier operation of TRANS STATE AIRLINES (D.B.A. American Connection)
Aircraft EMBRAER EMB-145LR (N814HK)
Injuries 36 Uninjured.
Accident occurred Thursday, August 14, 2008 in St. Louis, MO
While en route to the destination airport, the first officer (FO) warns that his flaps 45 degrees landings are “a little extreme.” The FO continues by stating that the landings are “a little non-standard, but it’s way more fun.” The flight data recorder (FDR) showed an increased in the airplane’s pitch angle at approximately 34 feet above ground level. The landing flare continues to increase to approximately 13 degrees of pitch angle with a corresponding angle of attack of 17 degrees. The airplane’s stick shaker/stall warning system activates seconds prior to the airplane’s landings. During the landing sequence, the airplane’s tail sections contacted the runway.

Apparently you haven't heard that AA and AE are Sky Nazzi's and the Hitler Youth Corps..... They make no bones about it, telling people they "can do things the AMR way, or go fly for Mesa."

Where the heck was the captain when that loser was landing?
