Mesa TA Details

Why cant we have a duty rig now? PBS without a duty rig would screw us. Besides a duty rig would cost the company nothing if they created efficient pairings. Otherwise its more of the same. Without a significant pay increase we will take a pay cut. With 28 day bids right now we get two additional pay checks. Getting paid twice a month would cut our pay if our bid guarentee werent increased by at least 8 hrs per month and then its still a wash. I vote no no no!!!!!!!!!

If we signed the contract on schedule next month, and the company goes into bankruptcy right afterward, more than likely the Judge will not allow the company to throw out the contract. The company has to reasonably show that the contract caused them to file for bankruptcy, and that wouldn't be the case here.
I personally think it's a good thing for all of us, it brings us up fairly close to the regional standard, and made a lot of headway for us. When we negotiate on the next contract in 2 years, we'll get even more and hopefully stay with the other regionals or surpass them. Lets try to keep our pilots positive here.
Just the thought of currently having the worst pay scales in the industry and then agreeing to a 2-year pay scale freeze with the exception of a very small FO rate hike 2 years from now ought to lower the reputation of the MAG pilot group lower than it has ever been (if that is even possible). Its deplorable that the MEC is even advertising "modest pay increases" when there are no changes to the pay scales.

No, no duty or trip rigs. We'll get that on the next go around in 2 years. I learned a little bit more about our schedules and realized not everything is in the companies control. They could do better, but they are limited on what they can do. I'm not trying to stick up for them either. I know both sides of this story fairly well, and I'm very positive about this. It's a big step for us. I'm amazed we did not get concessions. Other carriers such as expressjet had their own union asking them for 20% cuts and the company wanted 30% or something like that. I just want all our guys and girls to be open minded about this. It's a pretty big step for us. Yes, I know we still need (and are owed) a lot more, but we can't get it all this time around. It won't happen, and I'd rather have this new one, than the current one.

Let me just correct the last part of your statement. XJT management wanted 6% not 20% from our pilot group, management took a 10% pay cut as well. Our union and management came together and realized that this was an appropriate step for now, it is essentially a pay freeze for us per the LOA. Mesa is far from the top tier regionals but should be right up there, so get what you want now for the sake of all regional carriers. I would laugh if JO wanted concessions.
I'd laugh about that too!
Sorry for the mis-information. I was told from a relatively good source that it was about 20%. It's awful how things get misconstrued so easily. My bad!!!
As far as the rest of the comments go, I agree, and I would like to vote no on this TA (which I very well may do, I just want the pilots to see it first, and talk to them about it). I just want everyone to have an open mind abut this until they do actually see this. I think, especially after the recent turnover in management, we could possibly make more headway on this and get more.
As far as my misinformation, and I may be wrong, but I'm under the impression that if we vote no on this TA, then they have to scrap the entire document and when they go back to the table it must be done all over from scratch. I'm also really concerned that mgmt would laugh at us and just say no. At what point will we be getting the most from the company before they just flat out say no. I've heard some comments like "Well, I'd rather deal with this contract we have now until we get the one we really want!" I am pretty positive we can't get everything we want this time around. I also would like something much better between now, and the time we can get the best contract. Something that will really help us out right now.
I'm only a second year F/O, and while my pay hasn't been miserable (okay it has been, but I have good parents) I still need to make more money. That being said, I have never picked up opentime, because I don't believe in it. If there was a time when I needed to, it would be right now. I certainly will NOT pick up open time when we have guys on furlough. Having this contract will allow me to bring home a little bit more, while having a better schedule.
I'm trying to be as pro-pilot as I can be, but I also try to understand where management comes from as well (although it usually requires too much effort and I give up most of the time). I'm relatively new at all this sort of stuff, so I'm still trying to make sense of it. A lot of you guys are really familiar with situations like this, and I'm just looking at it very sensibly and trying not to go too far in depth with it. I'm not by any means trying to sell us short, but I just want things to get better, and I'm wondering if this isn't a good chance for all of us to make some serious progress in a time where it could very well go the other way. I mean hell, if they furlough any more pilots I'm pretty sure I'll be in that group.

The pilot group has not seen the TA...So stop yakking about it. If the poster on here that says he has a copy of it....he must be on the MEC...if that is the case I can not say much for your judgment by posting this stuff on a public forum before the group sees it.

I'm not on the MEC, and I was just trying to throw in my 2 cents. I've been accused of being a management plant, and now this. Sorry - I was only trying to help...

You need to get what you want from JO now! Talk to your co-workers that have been there longer. He's the master of future (empty)promises. Don't be a fool. How many motorcycles is he up to now?

Pokey - I agree with the comments you have made regarding the TA bullet points. I think most pilots will be a little disappointed when they see the final language, but I'm personally happy to get ANYTHING right now due to the state of the industry.
