You are right on there. My home town airport has very polite gate agent but unfortunately they don't seem to understand the js process very well. Seems they aren't given proper training on the subject. I do try to talk to the Capt or FO but with your tight turns I rarely get the chance. Again, thanks for the rides and I'm very happy when I get to return the favor.
The last time I tried to ask why I was denied the js the gate agent she got very defensive right away. I didn't get upset at all and her answer to me was "your a pilot you should know why you didn't get on". I did talk to a supervisor and he finally admitted she just screwed up.

Our gate agents are on the whole pretty bad and AMR is certainly not a shining example on how to run non-rev bennies so it isn't surprising that they actively try to make it difficult for the offline guys. That being said, a lot of us (myself included) depend on other airlines to get to work and it is only fair that we do everything we can to get pilots on airplanes whenever possible. If you are having difficulties with a specific station the jumpseat comittee can likely correct the issue. Good luck getting on and welcome aboard!

That sounds nice if you are a crew member, but for management non-rev is not a PRIORITY. I'm not sure wich policy works for Eagle.

We'll just pin the delay on the gate agent (it would be their delay anyhow). If there is no physical reason that a JS can't get on (ie, Jumpseat Inop, weight restricted, etc.) then we can and usually will wait until that person gets on. If it doesn't work for the company, then they need to train their gate agents better. The only way for a problem to be recognized is for it to be brought to someone's attention. If it takes a delay to get that attention, then so be it. I'll be damned if I'm going to be late to work because of some gate agent with a god complex or general incompetence, and I'm not going to let fellow pilots go through that as long as it is in my power to have a say.
