Because we still turn a profit..... for now. We also don't really have 1731 pilots. That list is out of date new list should be out this month. Though I don't expect it be much less then that.

Last time I heard there were almost 100 people on leave or awarded a COMA. I'm not sure how accurate that # is but if you look at the lists it looks like it's more.

If they can get 200 pilots to take COMA each month, I am sure that they would do it. Make em come back every three months to stay current. It is a lot cheaper than a furlough. Sometimes, it is just easier to furlough and cut the carrying costs. Especially, if DAL is renegotiating their reimbursement structure.

How many of the 1700 are actually line pilots?

That seems so distant especially with the current state of the industry. My furlough company is currently operating with more airplanes than active pilots! How a company still has kept pilots that require sim sessions to stay current is beyond me.

Unlike most airlines, our instructor pilots are on the seniority list. So, our ratio might be a bit off because of that.

Same at Mesaba, most instructors are on the master senority list.

Eh? 159 aircraft x 5.5 crews per plane=1749 pilots needed....

I like to tell the new FOs that the best way to make friends with Beal is to hurry out to the airplane, complete the safety check, get everything warmed up and ready, program the FMS and ACARS... then put a Diet Coke in his cup holder and a seat belt extender neatly folded on his seat. He really likes that.
