Sorry, But all I hear is when the furloughs will begin...not the hiring..sorry.

Sorry guys, but unless something 'big' happens, it is very unlikely that SkyWest will be hiring for some time. As there is no hiring at the majors or the few fractionals, attrition here is almost non-existent right now. We have reserve pilots that will go for almost a month without coming into work, and very few of the ones that are flying are even breaking guarantee.

I would love something to break loose like everyone and we can all move forward, but right now this whole business is at a standstill or moving backwards.

Best of luck to everyone.

The company website says hiring as of 12/31/08.

I'm a SLC based EMB FO and one of the perks is you get the head folks on SGU riding back and forth to SLC alot.

Had our COO on just before Xmas and CEO a few weeks before that. Also got to chat with the COO of ASA the other night. None of these conversations and the questions I asked lead me to think SKW will be calling folks for interviews anytime in the near future. Sorry for those who are waiting for the call. We have 100+ in the pool right now and continue to have difficulty justifying our current staffing levels. It's no secret we have a surplus of pilots right now.

We also get the folks from Training picking up trips to stay current and none of those have indicated they are getting ready to start any classes in the near future. Actually the only classes they may, hopefully won't, but may have to run are transition classes for CRJ to EMB is they do end up having to furlough. I highly doubt this will happen; and I expect to see those in the pool called about the same time we start interviewing again. When? Who knows but the first indicator will be a MAJOR increase in the flying that SKW is doing. Until then......

Cheers

Doom and gloom...We may not be hiring any time soon, but we sure as heck aren't going to Furlough. Thanks!

because skywest would NEVER furlough right? glad to hear you are so optomistic but most of my friends at skywest believe the furlough will be coming in march.

I'm sure that once they get together a no-joke leave policy (the month-to-month offering of late last year was ridiculous) that the Pilots can actually use (as in 90-day callbacks, longer than 1 month stints, etc...), enough of us will take the chance (FO's especially) to find other work temporarily. Give KB a little time to get the ducks in a row...

SKW will not furlough until they see their Summer FLT Schedule. At that time one of three things should happen:

A. Furlough up to 200 pilots
B. We will maintain our current levels until the end of summer when based upon our attrition, part time pilot lines and VLOA's they will reevaluate whether to furlough or not and how many to furlough.
C. We could see an increase in projected flying mainly on the UAL side. If this happens I wouldn’t expect SKW to start new hire classes because we are way overstaffed (to the tune of 200-300 pilots). It would take a pickup of over 30 a/c for SKW to start “dry docking” our poolies.

My thoughts/opinion………no furloughs with a small increase in flying, increased VLOA’s out past 6 months with routine currency training/FLT’s and 100++ PT pilot lines (will go extremely senior)…………………but I’m not Jerry. I’m also in no risk of being furloughed and a downgrade would actually be great. I now have my ATP, I’m almost at 1000 121 PIC and I’d love to stop commuting ATL-FAT.

You're such a pot stirrer! :p Obviously, like anywhere furloughing is a real possibility, but also like anywhere it wouldn't take much to get back to needing our full roster. Good luck to everybody, but especially to me ;)
