Great Lakes vs. Flight Express
#51
An update...
I got an email from FLX asking me to confirm that I will be in Orlando on the 16th.
I'm still waiting to hear from Lakes whether I have a class date or not. I would rather work for Lakes so I don't want to tell FLX that I will be there and then get a call on the 15 from Lakes.
Should I call Lakes and tell them I have another offer to speed up the process?

I've asked this type of question many times about excepting a job in one place and then getting a better offer and whether I would **feel** right about switching. The overwhelming concensus is that you do what is best for you! In your situation - it sounds like that means that you take the job that is offered and then up to some point (I'm not sure what that is - but before you have made a commitment in the form of a training contract or something) if something else comes along - you jump on that better deal.
This whole idea is going to be a change for me if i ever find myself in such a situation.

I agree. Tell express you'll be there, and if you get an offer from Lakes before you start at express, its a simple phone call to say thanks but no thanks.

You would be crazy to turn down a job for an interview and a *chance* at a job. Take the job you are offered, and then go interview and decide once you have a choice to make.

Ok. In this job market I would never turn down a job for a *possibility* of another job. Go to Flight Express class, and then if Great Lakes calls with the job bail for them, as it seems thats what you want to do anyway.

Last time I checked being on call 24/7 & leaving for 2 1/2 weeks to fly to NRT isn't my idea of a good time for any amount of $$$ (I have a good friend that does exactly that). I know there are great corporate jobs out there but the amount of time/job hopping you have to do to get there would never be worth it for me personally. If the guy's goal is to make it to the majors go with Lakes. Looking long-term if and I repeat IF a gulfstream driver makes more than a major CA he has to do ALOT more work to earn it. One positive that's hard to argue is in our 121 world we show up and fly and go home. I like the system but to each his own.
