Does anyone know the range of this new CRJ-1000? I looked on the Bombardier website but the range maps only showed the range for the -700 and (I love it when people call it this:) the -9.

The DC-9 is a long RJ too yes, however, it's a little beefier with stronger engines and MUCH MUCH MUCH higher paid pilots up front.

The CRJ-900 looks stupid as it is, this thing is getting to be re*******diclous. What a goofy looking plane, I bet the guys at mainline will refuse to fly it leaving it to the regionals to scalp what is left of this industry. You heard it here first.

I am originally from Wichita and in regards to the orginal quesiton....when Bombardier purchased the LearJet manufacturing facility in 1990 they also started at flight-test facility there too. It exists for the entire Bombardier Aerospace product line. Over the years I have seen all of the CRJ series, Q400, 415 fire-bomber, Challenger 300, etc, out flying around Wichita. Now that I think about it, I remember being home from college on the summer day in 1993 when one of the original CRJ test aircraft went down west of town, unfortunately taking several lives. Anyway, it is/was the third largest civilian flight test center in the world (after Boeing and Airbus).

In regards to the other manufactures in the area...Hawker Beech and Cessna also have their production flight-test centers at BEC and ICT, respectively. However both manufactures have recently announced significant layoffs. I would be very surprised if either will be hiring any pilots for a long time. Of course those jobs require that you live in Wichita...easy for Kansans but perhaps not for the west coast folks!

That is a bet you will most certainly lose.

The -900 and -1000 can only be compared to a DC-9 in the number of seats each has. There's little else that can be compared, whether it's comfort, headroom, shoulder room, and cargo room, not to mention others. I find the -700 seats incredibly uncomfortable by the time I arrive in ABE from CLT. I can't even fathom how much my a$$ would hurt flying from CLT to DEN.

I landed right behind the CRJ1000 in GFK today. Not sure why it's up here but it is, and wow is it big. It truly does look huge... doesn't seem right. We heard it on GFK approach and they were referring to it as a CRJ900. I thought it was a Mesaba diversion until we rolled past it when we touched down. Loooooooooong.

Tell you one thing, any longer and it will look like the plane is taking steroids.....I mean the engines look like raisinets compared to the body.
