Worst Crew Scheduling Story....
#41
My sceduling story is like this:
I worked for a part 135 company that was a place you went to just to build time, period. I was supposed to had flown into KGSO, while I was on the jumpseat and the crew was about to close the cabin door, sceduling called to tell me I have been reassigned to fly to KMCI.
So I get my things, run over to another concourse and board a flight to KORD in 10 minutes. I get to KORD and everything is oversold with all jumpseats taken to KMCI. It wasn't until 6:00p.m. that I finally get on board an a/c going to my destination.
The real kicker was sceduling kept calling to be sure I was still in KORD.
Best of all? I only made 10 bucks that day from the $50.00 per day I pulled in. Got my check later and $100.00 bucks was missing. I called to find out and the owner decided to punish me for not reporting to the a/c in a timely manner. I was livid and soon thereafter we parted ways.
Part 135 flying taught me if you hear about a company folks telll you to stay away from, you might want to listen to that.

I was in my 3rd year as an FO. My wife had flown into town to visit me during a reserve week. We were out having dinner when my pager goes off. I look down and see Scheduling in the display. We were having a really good time so I decided to call in at the last minute I was supposed to. I was hoping they would get someone else to callback first.
When I called in, I get one of the schedulers I know. She says, "We are still looking for a pilot and could you do me a really big favor." I say sure, "What is it?" She starts off with, "I know you've been here a long time." "Could you cover a captain trip for us? We can't find any captains who are legal." I started laughing.

Why? Because he does not want to contribute to another nagative thred on an already negative regional forum?
I hate this, I hate that...whaaaa whaaaa. It gets old. Lets sit and complain some more about how much we hate mgmt and crew scheduling.
Crew Scheduling has pulled crap on everyone, get over it. Why does anyone need to complain more about it?

More of a planning story really...
Back at Allegheny, there was a SYR line 3 day pairing published that on day 2 contained this little gem:
Leg 3: DH LGA-PHL
Leg 4: DH PHL-LGA.
That was a nice attempt at getting out of providing a day room that lasted, oh, about as long as it took the crew to get on the phone when they got to LGA after leg 2.
Good times.

My favorite crew scheduling tactic is to call you 5:59 minutes into a 6 hr ready reserve. I was in the process of logging in to checkout and head home. Then the scheduler had the nerve to ask me how my day was going.

I don't look at this thread as whining or complaining. I look at it as sharing stories with a humorous value. Don't take things so seriously. Scheduling is/was a big part of our work lives and they screw up alot. It's no big deal. Nobody here has shed a tear over scheduling. It's just somthing to talk about. Its people sharing experience.

Two Beer Rule
Many years ago at Comair, a scheduler called an off-duty pilot, not even on reserve. He told the scheduler he had been drinking and can't take the trip. The scheduler asked how much he had to drink and he replied that he had one beer. The scheduler told him that was OK because you can still fly after drinking two beers.
Gotta love Comair schedulers. It looks like they haven't changed since I left there many years ago.
