I have been off reserve since may '08. Unless I wanted to do rolling thunder on reserve. This is this M88B ATL. I would still be a lineholder in NYC on everything including the 76ER (that will change with the joint bids most likely). I have never been less that 16 days off as a line holder. 13 off on reserve. Work rules are nice.

There is the problem in a nutshell.... people seem happy to pilot a 90 pax jet under part 121 rules with regional working conditions for 75k a year... after 8 YEARS...

I'm sorry, 75k a year should have been after year 5 as an FO.... not as an 8 year CA with all the liability and responsibility that entails.

For comparison's sake, an 8 year dc-9/88 FO at DAL is 101 per hour as of Jan. '10, with much less responsibility. Even that pay is pretty sad comparing it to where it once was. Most guys that I fly with on the 88 were making more money 8 years ago in the right seat compared to their left seat pay now.

I'm sorry about your troubles. Were you one of the 147 hostages at CAL? They hired some good guys there, I had a stint at CAL as well, but left for DAL. Everything is a gamble, but long run it will pan out as it should... Good luck!

Yep, they call me hostage #33...I guess the coffee hadn't kicked in yet...I am very optimistic overall..just miss flying and tired of havig my wife keep the boat afloat...do like being home daily though...whenever this shizzle turns around, it should go off pretty good. It is a gamble like you said, i just happened to come up snake eyes on this roll...maybe next roll I can yell yatzi or craps or whatever...

it be "seven!!!!!" or "yo eleven!!!!!.". Craps is bad unless your betting against the shooter or against yourself if your the shooter. I made more money playing craps and black jack during a 5 month stint of unemployment, before i started the regional gig, than I've made to date since august of 2006 at TSA/RAH .Professional gambling is the greatest job ever. lots of emotional ups and downs though. Hard to keep your cool, and for some their home, car, wife, various electronic devices etc....

Back to topic. I will leave RAH as soon as macdonalds calls me back next week.

USMC,
Delta uses a very efficient PBS to award flying. The upside: a very small percentage of reserve vs. lineholders. The downside: Its so efficient we get by with less Pilots. Once you get over the initial pain of switching to the more efficient system, PBS Rocks. I can not hold a July vacation but via PBS strung 13 days in a row off, the last 7 of July, and the first 6 of August.

If anyone is on reserve after 8-10 years it is a choice.

You mean the ones with the "coveted" leather jacket.

While I agree with you on all counts.....
Taking a 60% paycut that you won't make up for 3 sometimes 4 years on top of my airline's shameful "no medical bennies for 6 months" AND...being extremely subject to layoff/reduction bidding make for a hard sell. Oh and I forgot sitting reserve in a new ****ty base for an indefinite period of time. I left my gig getting 75/hr for a 50 seater living in my home/base.

I'm talking about how things ARE not how they SHOULD be.
