Default Watch and learn

I just wanted to call everyone's attention to the cargo forums, specifically to the threads regarding the AmeriJet strike. There are many of us on this message board that were not in the industry during the last strike event. Please take the time to monitor the progress of the Amerijet strike, and lend your support when and how you can. I think we can all learn a lot from watching a strike unfold directly through the eyes of the pilots involved. Forums like this allow a less filtered version of the truth to be communicated to us in near real-time.

I also ask you to refrain from making unnecessary comments on the AmeriJet strike threads. This is their show. Ask questions, but please do not dilute their message or cheapen their struggle by bringing the normal message board animosity with you. Their struggle can help us all. A few of our companies may find themselves in self-help in the next few years, so this is important. Learn how the affected pilots deal with the situation, how scab pilots are tracked, how management tries to get you to cross a picket line, and how to communicate what work is considered "struck". Also, learn how outside pilots can contribute to the success and well being of those pilots who are foregoing pay and financial health in order to improve the industry for everyone.

I am obviously not an AmeriJet pilot, so I don't speak for them. But please watch closely, and let them speak for themselves.

I agree, and for many of us it's the first strike so it's good knowledge. But it's a little disappointing that more than 20% of their pilots, even though it's a small group, have already crossed the picket line.

oh man... that reception was like a turd in a punchbowl.

Apparently the strike will be getting interesting. A truckers union and a disgruntled bunch of pilots... I hope they send a message that goes beyond their situation. This isnt a game, this isnt for charity or fun, and the easy way out is very rarely good for the profession. The sad thing about this situation is that those 11 scabs were most likely aleady scabs previously. The good thing about this is the size of the company. I dont think you attack another persons livelihood and you continue working staus quo at such a small, intimate company. If there were 46 out of 57 that didnt scab... that is one ****ed off 46.

They're taking names now but they were saying in the cargo forum that there might be more than 11. How does the company expect to keep flying with only 20% of the pilots, they're going to time out soon and they cant keep sending out unmarked boxes to other carriers.

Mod note:

So what was this thread about? Stay on track, avoid flamebait or personal attacks. I'm not going to issue warnings for now, but will delete all posts that have no bearing on the thread topic. However, the next poster to flame another publicly will be banned.

In the meantime, I am closing this thread. If you'd like it re-opened, send me a PM with your best argument as to why. I'll take everything under advisement.

----------------------------------
Ok, so I received some PMs that contained impassioned commentary on why I should re-open the thread. I am sufficiently persuaded and therefore, I have re-opened this.

At this time, I urge everyone to look over the Terms of Service again and this thread where I tried to explain (again) how you too can have an enjoyable and productive experience on APC. There is absolutely no logical reason for folks to be fighting, flaming, and otherwise behaving like juvenile delinquents. The profession is being battered enough, there is no need to prove that some of you may not really be the professionals you so want people to believe.

There is a strike going on at Amerijet. I'd rather put my efforts into supporting union brothers and sisters instead of trying to tear each other down.

I have said to many of you that my priority is APC and your individual posting behavior. I take this "job" of moderator very seriously, but I also try my best to moderate with a kinder, gentler and even hand. However, if someone persists in causing havoc, I will not hesitate to cut you off. A little tough love has never hurt anyone. And I have yet to meet someone who is beyond redemption.
