We have it and we love it. The key is to have a good software package and a strong enough agreement to prevent the airline scheduling department from messing it up.
The second part of a successful transition to PBS is training the pilots to use it. Most of the complaints we have from pilots saying they were getting screwed were by pilots who typed with their thumbs and had never used bidpro or other sorting programs. Congrats ASA. Good luck with your transition. |

Perfect statement, I agree with this 100%. So how is just pbs going to get us to be competitive? We could add dual qual, and give up some pay, then make our group more junior. Wait how do we do that? But wait you said Jerry says our pay is not our problem. Which is it Joe.

Best of luck. PBS is a joke.
Awesome if your senior, as they get exactly what they want. Mid-level, its hit and miss; some months good, others terrible. Junior = bend over. You will get nothing you ask for, generally backed up against one another. Common schedule at Mesa: 4 on, 1 off, 4 on, 2 off, 4 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off, 1 on, 1 off, 4 on. You get the idea. Not commuter friendly whatsoever. |
When my MEC studied PBS after management began pushing it, it discovered that it saved the company money due to a 15% increase in efficiency. This means 85% of the pilots on PBS could do the work of the present 100%. Savings was about 15 million dollars per year. It meant less reserves would be needed since there'd be less conflicts. More pilots could hold hard schedules instead of reserve. The down side was 15% less upgrades and transitions.
Any deal for PBS would have to include a no furlough clause for the 15%, vacation days, increase in pay due to the reduction in OT flying and increase in FO pay because of the 15% increase in upgrade time. PBS, if done correctly, can be a blessing. Done incorrectly, it would truly suck for most pilots. |

Yes the company used the remaining fo's to be furloughed for the summer and clammed up about pbs. Then bam sept 1st furlough the rest and we have a pbs ta with a no furlought clause for anyone on property. How convenient. But hey the company is looking out for us with this pbs deal right? Keep telling yourself that.

So I wonder is that why ASA furloughed another 56. So that once PBS is agreed to they would look like the good guy cuz there was no furloughs after.... Forgetting the fact that there are 136 of us on the streets waiting for recall. That 15% could have been our recall. ASA has about 1700 pilots, 15% of 1700 is 255. So basically what I am saying is I wonder if ASA chose to furlough then do PBS VS PBS then furlough.
If they try to furlough after PBS, the legal battle might be too costly. I'm skeptical that this will help us win new flying - it likely won't be voted on before UAL's Oct RFP and it may not be implemented by next spring if it does pass. Regardless, if the bullet-point highlights put out by the union are solid, I'm starting to lean toward favoring it. Guess we'll see! |
