The thread asks people what they think of the article. To be brutally honest it makes him sound pretty materialistic and on a power trip. My thinking was in line with a lot of the other guys regarding this. I do feel much better now that he has come on here and told his side of the story. I do feel much better about the story now that I know that the NYT staff took liberties in twisting his words around.

Now on to the 2nd part. I'm glad Bryan told his story and wish that his words or basically the post he put on here would have been published instead of what the NYT writer published. I think we all know his story because most of has lived it. We all know that this job takes a lot out of you and your family. We used to get compensated with high pay and QOL issues in order to do this, but that is no longer the case. We all need to find a way to get the pay and QOL back up, but I'm not sure how that can be done.

Other things that the media might want to know would be the fact that for some if not most commuting is no longer a choice, but is a necessity. Companies that open and close bases like revolving doors (Colgan did this to me a few times) Companies displacing people from base to base, not paying enough for someone to live in domicile when they are based in high cost cities such as DC LA NY etc. Or the fact that a lot of us have to have 2nd jobs just to make ends meet.
Great Corn ; Thank you!! Well said.

Look, the article misqouted at best, and obviously a part of it rankled me. Unfortunately we come to find this out in hindsight.

I thank all who bring the truth of pilot QOL to light, and to Bryan Lawlor, thank you especially.

The parties responsible for the butchering of this man's words should be held accountable, because the distance between what was said and what was printed is apparently vast.

Default Media misquotes

Completely agree on the misquotes and statements taken out of context by the media. Unfortunately, we never get to read and/or approve the author's work before it hits the press. I've been on both ends...the guy being quoted and the guy writing the article. Even when writing the article once I sign over the copyright to the magazine, the editor can make changes that "turn" the focus or twist what my intent was.

For the record, been down a similiar career path with ACA/Independence:
Upgrade-Downgrade-Furlough-Liquidation.

reading all the comments...made me realize one thing...the derregulation act of 1978 has been a complete failure. that and code-sharing. if we still had the cab etc. airlines like ozark, southern, western would still be around...in general domestic flying would be mainline and therefore pilot salarys much higher, a lot of small cities that have lost much or all airplane service...would still have mainline jet service...fares might be a little higher, but service would be much better. airlines would not be selling 75% of their seats at below cost....

When I first read this article I was puzzled that Bryan would "sell out" his fellow pilots especially with all that he has done for our company. I ended up talking to Bryan today for over a hour and learned a lot more information about this article. Bryan and his wife were misquoted and taken out of context multiple times. He was trying to open up the eyes of the public to the state of disrepair that our industry is in and unfortunatly the author of the article did not even give Bryan a copy of the article before it went to press. I think we all get the picture now. Moving on, what Bryan did by putting himself out there took a lot and hopefully what was not taken out of context will be taken to heart to let the public know that most carriers have downgraded and furloughed which has disrupted lives, changed how we live and even caused major problems at home. I too am a former ACA employee and saw a great airline end up in the airline graveyard and I do not want to see that again. Pilots have a great deal of responsibility and when you are on short overnights and tired the last thing you want to think about is, am I going to be able to provide for my family. Thanks Bryan for speaking your mind and trying to stand up for what is right.
