Furlough Recalls?

Hey all!
Just a furloughed ASA pilot here wondering if anyone has heard of us being recalled anytime soon at ASA or any other airline for that matter! I miss the smell of jet fuel!

As a general rule, unless something unexpected happens, airlines only furlough if they expect to be overstaffed for over 18 months. Any shorter than that then it's not economical considering layoff, rehire, and retraining expenses.

From what we are told at ASA, unfortunately not. Management is till working on securing flying for those 20 200's. Even then with PBS we should still be properly staffed, or so we are told.

I would hope by 4 years you'll have moved your life along and will be in a better place. However I think if it does come to that your union needs to get involved with making sure that you'll be called back no matter how long it takes.
I would have to ask you this: considering how much you were making at ASA, would you be willing to still make that same pay 4, 5, 6 years from now? At some point we all have to get on with life.

If you read this board, you would think recalls aren't likely until the end of time. I wouldn't be so sure though. Much to my surprise, the rebound in the economy seems to far more robust than anyone thought. That doesn't mean everyone who had a job will get it back right away, but I think you could see some recalls for the spring and summer flying in 2010.
I have several friends who fly for Republic and they tell me all of the time they are understaffed to the point where they are being called for overtime often. They also tell me that sometimes, captains are flying as FO's. That suggests underatffing of some sort and it backs up a story that appeared on CNBC a few weeks ago.
The article stated companies that laid off many workers are beginning the process of rehiring some workers. They're not calling back as many as they need though because many CEO's still are uncertain about an economic rebound. If the rebound is as many economists are now saying, then the hand of managment might be forced as demand for flying picks up.
Juts a positive thought.

My guess is no one will get recalled until we get more block hours and/or we have serious attrition. If we win the UA contract and have another summer like we just had then maybe some of the last 56 will get recalled. The first 80 will still have to wait quite awhile, 2011-2012 I'd guess.

.. Hopefully a callback happens before the four year limit...
