Do you have any other prospects on the burner? Can you put off Mesa until you get an asnwer from someone else? You could always start groundcshool then bail in the middle if you get a better offer.
How much flight time do you have?
If you have nothing else lined up and less than 1000 hours, you might want to take it. Worst case stay a year and then you would be marketable to any regional who is hiring.
Mesa is better than being a CFI in most cases, and is certainly better for your career. Also if you live in domicile it's not too bad.

If you have 121 turbine experience you will almost certainly go to the dhc-8 in one of the new bases in Northeastern US. You may have an opportunity to upgrade to -8 captain in less than a year.
Training in the -8 is best described as brutal, the fail rate is much higher than any other US airline which operates that aircraft. I understand that a 30-50% fail rate is normal. If possible, take a leave of absence from your current job so that you can go back if you don't get through.
Jet training is easier, but like I said, you will probably get assigned the dash due to growth in that aircrfat and your background.

Personal opinion (as a former MAPD instructor): Mesa is for "putting" in you dues. If you have the time, don't go to Mesa. They have the worst work rules in the biz. If you get hired with 250-500 hours, it's worth it. After that (IMHO) you are putting up with H-E-double hockey sticks for nothing. There are at least a half dozen other airlines that you are competitive for that would be ten (or more) times better for you.
Just my 2 cents.

Hi everyone, I am not a pilot but my husband is. I am seeking your views at the market out there for pilots in the commercial airline. My husband is trained in flying fighter jets and has an option to either renew or leave by May next year as his contract will expire.
What are the prospects for fighter pilots in the commercial world? He is contemplating on leaving but we are wandering if it is easy getting into the market when he leaves.

I assume that he has 10-12 years in, that's typical for a first term tac-air guy at EOS...the airline industry has a few sweet spots (fedex and probably SWA), but a lot of uncertainty. Basically, you are taking a significant gamble...giving up the security of the military and the 20-year pension in hopes of getting better pay (in the long run) and quality of life (ie more time off).
In todays world I would think carefully before abandoning the military prior to 20 years...keep in mind that it is common for reired military pilots to get hired at airlines, the only downside is that with only 15-18 years of airline time you are forgoing the most senior, and best compensated years of airline service.

??? Freedom does not operate the CL-65 (CRJ), they operate the ERJ and DHC-8.
If you are really being assigned the CL-65 than you will be on the Mesa certificate, not freedom.
