It's true...

Copperhed51 11-05-2009 02:13 PM

It is true. Just talked to my buddy who was in the last new hire class at TSA in 08 and he just got his recall letter. Looks like everybody is coming back. What the F am I gonna do?

145mule 11-05-2009 02:21 PM

It is true. Certified Letter in the mail today.

3 Classes in December (7th, 14th & 21st)

btwissel 11-05-2009 02:47 PM

any reason why? is it just to cover the UAL flying that's getting removed from CHQ?

What is a TSA pool like? Probably a little dirtier than the one for Skywest?:D

iPilot 11-05-2009 03:12 PM

I wouldn't say its guaranteed everyone is coming back. Since there's no telling how many will bypass or not accept a recall it's probably prudent for them to notify everyone. Then once they know who will be showing up for class they'll send out letters notifying who on the list really gets to return and who has to sit this round out.

That's how it's probably going to work. But I always expected for them to call us first otherwise why bother sending letters for those that are not interested. At least that's how they notified me when I got furloughed then they sent the letter.

Whacker77 11-05-2009 03:36 PM

Must be a lie. I thought there was no chance of recalls anywhere before the Mayan Calendar ends.

In all seriousness, this is great to hear. Good luck to all of you.

Rsrv4ever 11-05-2009 03:46 PM

im June 07' class and I havent heard anything, ?????????

flynavyj 11-05-2009 04:12 PM

That's awesome news, friend just called me with the info. Seems odd though since TSA was over 50 A/C prior to the furloughs, so if everyone is coming back, there'd have to be something big GUARANTEED to be happening...God knows F.O. wouldn't bother bringing people back on property for a "rumor" or just because he felt bad to have guys on the street in this bad economy.

If it's certified mail, give it time. It is the US Mail...

yea good point. definitely not rumors about the recalls. while its great were getting recalled, I feel for the guys were replacing the flying for. good luck guys.

jaded 11-05-2009 06:29 PM

Of course the month I get furloughed from the airline that made me give up my # at TSA, they start recalling at TSA.

bryris 11-05-2009 07:08 PM

Makes me sort of wish I'd kept my name on their list (I chose to cut my losses to pursue other avenues). It'd be tough not to accept the recall in tough times like this. On the other hand, would I really want to go back to TSA? It'd be one hell of a culture shock after living at home again (I commuted before) for a year in my own bed every night. Faced with the decision, it'd be a tough decision to make either way. Not sure how I feel right now, regretful or happy that I am free of the whole mess. 50/50 maybe. Its just illustrative how much of a hold this industry can get on one who loves flying. It truly is a love/hate relationship if I ever did see one. Its part of the reason these internet boards are as "lively" as they are. A lot of passionate, yet "****ed off" folks on here.

For those who view this as good news, I am honestly happy for you all. The dice came up a winner this time.

Since we've established that no "new" flying is happening out there, who is getting the short end of the stick? Are more pilots going to get furloughed from whomever is losing the flying?

Stew75 11-05-2009 07:21 PM

I don't see why they would recall with no new airplanes or flying.

DryMotorBoatin 11-05-2009 07:27 PM

well here it is boys...lace up those waterskis and lets do some flying...

Wasn't at Mesaba was it? I really think that process needs a court challenge... seems to me like you give up your previous number under duress... One buddy already missed his recall at Air Wisky and I will likely miss mine.

You might talk to the MEC at TSA and see if there's anyway to get back on the list if even at the bottom. I've heard rumors of such things happening. Good luck

soonerpilot06 11-05-2009 09:21 PM

I'm pretty certain I won't go back. I really really really miss flying the jet, but I would rather be home with my wife every night. I have a much better QOL as flight instructor. I can't justify the pay or working conditions there. Feds all over the place. All planes having at least 3 items deferred. Not for me. No thanks.

JayHub 11-05-2009 09:43 PM

Didn't see this one coming.

brucer69 11-06-2009 04:05 AM

If you were in an abusive relationship with a girl who cheated on you and then dumped why would go back if she asked you? No matter how hot she was, she is just going to cheat and dump you again.

That's how i feel.

I don't think ill be taking the recall.

Amen to that.

Uncle HK always has a plan, otherwise he would not be bringing pilots back, we will find out soon. Great news though for the waterskiers.

fjetter 11-06-2009 05:36 AM

Anybody think this has something to do with the deal TSA/TSH made for those Mitsubishi RJ's?

Hopefully not, but congratulations to all those returning.

flying123 11-06-2009 06:06 AM

MEL stickers eveeeeeeerywhere. UAL only awards the best!

flyinaway411 11-06-2009 06:08 AM

i heard 10 airplanes and a 100 recalls. which they probably sent a letter to everyone expecting a lot to not accept recall. again...i "HEARD".....dont take it for anything

joemhama 11-06-2009 07:10 AM

Mail?

for those of you who got the certified mail, what does the letter ask of you? To just send a formal yes/no letter back to them?

Reason I ask is b/c I moved recently and havent got around to updating my address w alpa.

DryMotorBoatin 11-06-2009 07:25 AM

i just got the mail....yeah...what are we supposed to do? it says youll be given a class date when you notify the company of your intent to return but it doesnt say how or who

Copperhed51 11-06-2009 08:40 AM

So what kind of training are we going to get? I've been out of that airplane for over a year now and have purged a lot of it from my memory to figure out my current airplane. It figures that I have worked at the 2 airlines with the most memory items on the face of the earth.

joemhama 11-06-2009 08:45 AM

training

the 8 recalls before this one got a standard recurrent with a couple of extra sim sessions. not sure how these ones are gonna go though.

Yes at Mesaba. It seems like with a court challenge however, I might end up burning bridges at Mesaba to get on the bottom of the TSA list. I don't know if I'd like that either, but thank you.

Maybe I'll just wait for a recall at Mesaba while trying to do something lucrative like work at Starbucks. ;)

I think this is what everyone's thinking right now. To go back to an abusive relationship or not.

That pretty much sums up this ENTIRE career.

Last spring I was about 5 from the bottom of the list at TSA after the last of the furloughs. At that same time I was hired by Compass. My rational to leave TSA for Compass was almost as simple as brucer's post. TSA is so unstable (even more so than other regionals) that before I was hired CPS I was about to quit without anything else lined up for work (many waterski's had that same feeling, including a surprising number of capts.).

For me the choice to leave was simple. After spending 3 years at TSA, did I really want to spend any more time under their employment after how poorly they've treated their employee's and ran their business? Was leaving the best decision even if it meant the possibility of loosing a future upgrade? Even when they start upgrading my former classmates and I'm still just a FO at CPS I will be happy with the decision I made leaving that place.

I really do wish the best to all the great crews I worked with and hope my friends do upgrade and find success there.

Jaded,

I know getting furloughed sucks but if all I can offer is one piece of friendly advice; do NOT give up an XJ number for TSA.

While any current job may look attractive for now, these two opportunities may be apples to oranges in the not to distant future.

There should be no reason to have to give up a seniority number anywhere to go somewhere else. My advice is fight to get your number back at TSA and don't give up your number at XJ. TSA doesn't require you to give up seniority at XJ if you accept a recall as far as I know. I'd give somebody at the TSA MEC a call about getting back on the list there due to forfeiting seniority under duress. I've heard from a friend that ExpressJet wouldn't allow people to surrender their numbers there. That's how it should be.

homelessguy1 11-06-2009 11:37 AM

Well it looks like I will be moving from one craphole job to another. At least I can do what I like doing again even though it is a awful place. Can't wait to take a dump on TSA when I get a class date for ATC school.

undflyboy06 11-06-2009 11:38 AM

It's safe to say that this furloughed waterskiier will be giving the big thanks but no thanks for the return. After getting a 135 cargo gig where I make the same amount flying a Piper Chieftain then I do flying a 50 seat ERJ for cheap Hulas, moving from Missouri to Oregon, and being home every night and have EVERY WEEKEND off.........yea, I'll tell them my reason for not coming back.

For those of you that do decide to return I am very happy for you. I wish you the best of luck. I do miss the the ERJ from time to time.
