That's easy to fix, don't leave it up to chance that you'll get stuck waiting on passengers. Make sure it is in your contract that rest is "time behind the door." Just call when you get to the hotel, problem solved.

Hi!

The previous congressional changes to Rest were Lobby-to-Lobby.

The Flight/Duty/Rest, increased mins for all -121 hires, and a bunch of other stuff are all included in the FAA authorization bill, that already passed Senate and House. As stated, the house/senate committee is working on a compromise on the differences.

I'm not sure if the F/D/R rules will be changed automatically by Congress, or if they give the FAA some time to make the changes vis NPRM. If the FAA is too slow, then Congress will probably enact the changes immediately, as they did with Age 65.

There WILL be a LOT of changes!

Through the fatigue calls MGMT is evaluating and will likely change the rest requirements and duty day. Rumors are no less than 10 rest and max duty of 12 hours.
Now, let actually see if it goes through. At AAG they are going to the extreme of crunching pennies. So, if those new times do go through then it is a step in the right derection. Good job to the QX crews that called in fatigued and didn't fly fatigued.
I do not trust anything our managers do or say. However, we did have an extra bit of ammunition that many regionals don't have. That is an actual fatigue policy. Other regional pilots can be stuck between a rock and a hard place with fatigue calls. Yes, ultimately they will keep their job with the FAA backing them. But the fight that can potentially happen in the meantime would be a bummer (especially with low paid pilots who cannot afford a couple of months without pay).

I am very glad rest and duty changes are happening at Horizon (eventually). But, I have no doubt they came about because it became too expensive to keep trying to work us to exhaustion. For the managers making the decision it has nothing to do with safety.

Because it is so incredibly easy to get anything into a contract we wish.
