2. The maximum number of Mesaba pilots Flowing Up shall be:
a. ten percent (10%) of the Total Pilot Group over a rolling
twelve (12) month period, and
b. no more than nine (9) pilots a month (three (3) pilots per
month for the period January 1, 2008 through
September 30, 2008).
Good post though!AND, Where is this 170 poolies number coming from? I honestly have no idea if that's right or wrong, but in reading the Delta thread; they're all saying between 35 and 50 poolies. (consider the source)
I wholly agree though, the poolies should have first dibs after the furloughees...
SEEEEEEEYA!

I don't know why you are so bent out of shape over Mesaba flowthru that has not even started but all your assumptions are completely wrong. You sound downright bitter.
FYI, the first 45 that will flowthru in 2010 have all been at Mesaba for at least 14 years with close to 10,000 pic turbine time. many with thousands of hours in Avros and CRJ900s. You can't hardly call Avros and CRJ900s small little regional jets. At any case heavy jet time is not a requirement for getting hired at DAL. Never has been. Otherwise DAL would not have hired hundreds of ERJ 145 and CRJ200 pilots from ExpressJet and ASA. I know few who had barely over 3 years total at their respective regionals. As for more qualified furloghed pilots from legacy carriers, if you mean UAL pilots, I know majority of them were hired on at UAL from regionals like SkyWest, etc. So they only had regional flying experience when they were hired. I also know for a fact that UAL hired females and former male interns with less than 700 hours total and the biggest they have flown before getting on with UAL was a Seminole. I have my squadron buddy with tactical fighter time out on the street since 2001 while those same people mentioned above are holding lines at UAL.
If DAL hires in August everyone will have a share shake of the pie because Mesaba is only entitled to 9 per class and Compass only takes up 20 per month. DAL is planning to hire 300 in 2010 so that still leaves 155 open slots for you to compete for. DAL is probably going to hire in 2011 also. I find it ironic people like you don't complain about flowthru when furloughs are imminent but when there is even a whiff of hiring, you immediately start attacking the pilot group who had no say so in the implementation of the flowthru program.
I respectfully recommend that you take a more positive attitude should you get invited to interview with DAL otherwise your negative and bitterness will show thru during your interview. Good luck to your career. I mean it sincerely.

Your United numbers are not the norm...in my new hire class at United, not 1 person had less than 10,000 hours and at least 2 type ratings, and yes...all white males. Imagine that.

How smart of an idea was that blended first officer pay rate now?
There are going to be lots of Saab Captains that are going to be forced back to first officers. Guys that have been there over a decade are going to be making $40 per flight hour as first officers on 90 seat jets.
One of the reasons that I left Mesaba six years ago was that I was facing the same problem.... Sit reserve forever as a Saab captain, or make peanuts as a first officer. There is no way a pilot with middling seniority can have a good schedule AND a liveable income.
Of course, when this blended first officer pay rate was agreed upon many pilots in the middle didn't seem to give it much consideration because they assumed that they would soon all be captains forever anyway. Very short-sighted!

Blended first officer rates are bull. It's just a way for regionals to avoid training costs. They figure if all first officers make the same, then they won't have to train them to switch equipment. Republic has taken it to the extreme. One rate ($37/hour max) for a first officer whether flying a 37 seat jet or a 100 seat jet with a seat deferred.

Yes, this guy is DEFINATELY bitter about his lot in life and apparently expects the industry to confrom to his way of thinking. I think the poor guy's in for a lot more disappointment in the future.

While nobody knows for sure, The number most folks have settled on is about 60 NWA poolies. No way over 100, FWI. I was a May 5th 08 class, and I think there were two other classes, have heard that there were some that were hired and not given a class date, so 20 - 25 pilot a class, pretty standard, and you have 60 - 70 poolies, maybe 100 at the high end.
I'm sorry to hear about the Saabs, an old firend will be affected by that, need to call him up anyway.

AD Lib,
You know the funny thing, it goes both ways. I've had a Delta jumpseater give us lip because we didn't want him in the jumpseat, with a 3 day old beard/shorts and a Hawaiian shirt!!!! I'm sick of you folks that look down on us as unqualified, when your own house isn't exactly clean either. I welcome you to come over to Eagan, come see our training department, meet the folks that run ASAP, meet our Union Reps, talk with our LCA's, our fellow captains that helped with peer mentoring at their own expense. Our PILOTS are what maintain the level of safety and customer service at this company! We run a damn good operation. We are not children. We're not perfect but I will put our pilot group up against any other group.
The first 80 projected flow ups, heck the first 400 pilots that can flow, all have over 12 years of 121 experience. The majority have families, mortgages, the same responsibilities that you have. You ever heard the saying "the older you get, the better you were"? I bet someone thought you were a little punk to when you were first hired, at mainline. Would of been nice if they had taken the time to know the true you. Give the same respect you would of wanted to these guys that flow. They are hard working, responsible pilots utilizing a, UNION NEGOTIATED, option to further their career.
