However, considering that this whole rumor is about the full integration of SKW, XJT, and ASA, I think it would be tough to get 51% out of a group that is 2/3s unionized.

Considering those that have bypassed, I hear there is approximately 175 left to be called on the first round.

Are you referring to skw quarterly earnings call? I usually don't give these type of rumors much weight, but I admit, I'm getting a little inpatient to hear the call. Lets just hope that when all is revealed, it isn't the same as always. We could all use some forward progress, or at least hope of it.
Nothing interesting will be announced this time either. |
It's a look back call, not a look forward call.
Talk will be about Q2, not Q3/Q4... Not expecting anything too exciting from the call. |
Rumor Update.
Not only has the rumor gone viral, but all the signs are starting to show everywhere. We're also hearing August 4th over here....we shall see!

How would the aquisition of XJT benefit SKYW in anyway? SKYW is already going to be in bed with CO with the merger and a very long contract with UAL. SKYW has already enough 50 seat RJs that management really doesn't want anymore. Why would they buy XJT?

Also, with the economies of scale that a merged XJT/SKW would create they would be a very potent competitor on any new contracts.

It would be the largest regional in the world. I think Skywest already holds that title but i am not sure.

Take out a very large competitor. Basically the same reason Continental and United are merging. Right now there are so many starving regionals that nobody can negotiate a profitable contract. Also, with the economies of scale that a merged XJT/SKW would create they would be a very potent competitor on any new contracts.
With the combination of XJT/SKW/ASA(Surely to be ALPA), TSA/Compass, and PNCL/Colgan/XJ, ALPA will have the power of representing the 3 of the largest regionals in the US. And now with the 1500 rule creating a barrier to entry, the leverage the regional pilots have will be unprecedented. I look forward to joining with the XJT and SKW pilot groups under one seniority list represented by ALPA |
