Turboprop PIC is better than turbojet SIC time. We have guys that leave here and go directly to Omni, Frontier, Allegiant, and even Southwest and Delta. The dues you pay at Lakes are harder than at Skywest, but you're paying them a lot shorter. Come to Lakes, upgrade in a year, and be set. Nobody cares how much part 91 instructing time you have...they care about total time and 121 trubine time. The balloon payment will be paid, we still have plenty of EAS cities, and we are getting a new contract. Again, a no brainer IMHO. BTW, it's not a 2 year upgrade here; most junior CA is Feb 2010. 15 months.
I don't know, flying a seminole at 3000 feet agl on a 95 degree day sounds so much better than a VCM, smooth air at FL 250, boots, and inverted ILS's. Wait...seminole's have jets on them, right?

VCM? Maybe 50% of the time.

Better than 0% of the time. Although, when the pressurization's MEL'd, that just plain sucks no matter who you are or what you got.

For the record I was never piston time versus turbine time was never really the issue, but 14K versus 40K certainly was.

That's a tough one to swallow in this economy. I can feel your pain on having to make the decision between a dream and reality.

How is Great Lakes right now? I still hear lake******** everyday, but almost every plane has only three passengers on it. What is the current outlook, staffing, attrition, upgrades, etc? Maybe others on this forum are haters and will dis Lakes every chance they get, but I love hearing about the company.

How do you people afford to work for GL? I personally know I never could live on their FO pay and I am single with no kids. Do you not have any student loans? Do you eat Ramin noodles for every meal? Do you save any money? What happens if you lose your job/medical, or break your leg and have to miss 2 months of work?

Some of the best pilots I have ever met were former Great Lakes guys. It may not be the most glamourous job, but you will get some of the best experience flying for Great Lakes.

Now that is true. The only positives are a good pilot group to work with and a good chance at building PIC time. The pay is pathetic. Sounds like you are going to try going there all I can recommend is have a very good attitude!
