Great Lakes upgrade time?
#22
i cant believe you guys are recommending this guy to a mei job instead of a 121 chance... dude take the job at lakes upgrade is under 2 years, and if you dont like it or dont want to finish out then peace out to another regional after 15 months (training contract) and you should be totally able to get a job elsewhere as many current FO's at lakes are leaving for skywest and the like... it also gives you a small preview of things to expect in terms of 121 flying and schedules (although lakes schedules are going to be a little bit more brutal with those 9 leg days and 8 hour overnights).. i might be biased because i work at lakes now but i was instructing at a mei gig where i only flew mei instruction the entire time at about 50 hours a month and made more money, just make the sacrifice and make the jump it will be worth it.

Last I heard, they hired an outside company to seek out investors, to come up with the money. From talking to other pilots, I don't think anyone is being told anything about the progress of the payment/ refinancing the payment. I may be wrong, however.

Some FOs jump ship who have the seniority to upgrade immediately. Even some really good FOs, who would make great CAs. I can't say I blame them....

[...]the guy that posted this, I have to agree with him. You are seriously debating instructing over a 121 job??? 121 turbine PIC is 121 turbine PIC...jet or turboprop. Turboprop PIC is better than turbojet SIC time. We have guys that leave here and go directly to Omni, Frontier, Allegiant, and even Southwest and Delta. The dues you pay in at Lakes are harder than at Skywest, but you're paying them a lot shorter. Come to Lakes, upgrade in a year, and be set. Nobody cares how much part 91 instructing time you have...they care about total time and 121 trubine time. The balloon payment will be paid, we still have plenty of EAS cities, and we are getting a new contract. Again, a no brainer IMHO. BTW, it's not a 2 year upgrade here; most junior CA is Feb 2010. 15 months.
