Question PSA interview August 31

Ok, just had my interview with PSA yesterday. It was great! I think I heard Rachel say that we would hear something either way within this next week by letter, but now I am not sure. So I guess my question is, if anyone else who was there or just has knowledge on how this system works knows if this true or not. I guess I am used to the "call good, letter bad" mentality, that is why I ask. I know 1 guy already got hired into tuesday's class because there was one opening. When they asked me when I would be available, I said that I would be available ASAP but would like at least 1-2 weeks notice to give my present boss. I don't want to burn any bridges. I hope that wasn't a mistake to say

What did they ask? Your hours? Sim ride?

Forgive - ignored your question the 1st time out...You did the right thing - PSA and your current employer should appreciate...

shouldn't have been a mistake to say, most employers like the curtosy of being notified if an employee is relocating. I was hired and had exactly two weeks before my class date, a couple of friends weren't as lucky, and only have a week or less before class and employers weren't quite as "understanding".

Two weeks notice is the norm in this industry; don't burn any bridges unnecessarily. The only exception would be if FEDEX called me tonight for a monday class...I would give my resignation by cell phone on Monday, from Memphis.

If an employer is in the postion of needing someone in less than two weeks, they will tell you that up front, not leave you guessing. If they need you now or never, they will tell you that.

I have been offered ground school dates with less than two weeks notice, but have never accepted. In both cases they just offered me the next date that was 2+ weeks out.

Whether you took the class the following week or not WILL NOT affect whether or not you are hired. They're are some people who are out of work that could start yesterday, Some don't care about two weeks notice and some people like to get there life in order and want as much time as possible. Our previous HR group got so far behind that they were interviewing on Wednesday and Thursday for class the following Monday and we could fill classes of 20. Not the approved method but you do what you have to do. Ms. H has here stuff in order and generally we give at least 2 weeks and try for much longer, This was a last minute addition where we were caught of guard needing two additional bodies.

Calls and letters will not go out until next week when HR (interviewers) and Training Deptartment (sim eval.) get together to go over data. Calls do happen BUTit is possible to get a letter stating you are placed in the hiring pool and how to update via e-mail. AND THERE'S THE OTHER LETTER.

One more question I have. If PSA hired 2 people into Tuesdays class, that means that they already knew who made the cut and who didn't on Thursday.....correct? If so, then why does it take a week to get a reply either way for the rest of us? Is it just a timing thing? I am not trying to be too nosey into how the whole go/no go decision works, I guess it is just a nervous/excited/anxious thing I have going on. Also, I was told after the sim session that I had passed the sim eval, and since you have to pass each phase of the interview to move onto the next I just figure that I passed the HR portion as well. I can only take this as a good thing.........I hope

It has nothing to do with his age!

Patience, it's all part of the game.

Yes and No, The two groups know who they would like to hire, but with the exception of the few guys that are Available for the class on Tuesday (tomorrow), Sim Evals go much later than interviews and the two groups may not Interact until the Training Dept. guys return to DAY later the next week. HR was on the next flight home and so was the CP. We have had Interviews in the morning with Sim evals not starting until 10pm, it just depends on sim schedule. I can guarantee that there were calls made as soon as the sim evals were complete for the Tuesday starters!

And again with going on to the additional or next phase, it usually only applies to the Testing Portion, We have had individuals do the Sim evals before they interview (and/or test), sometimes the night before BUT the sim evaluators do not always have the "PROPER HR" Training to send someone home! I'm sure someone has passed the Sim Eval the night before but didn't pass the test the next day and never got to Interview, That would be bad HUH???

Some Mysteries answered yet probably even more confusing!

You'll know either way in a few days.

Good Luck,
PSACPSP
