Difference between Comair and ASA/XJT
#1
This is an honest question, what is the difference between where Comair was at before the big reduction announcment and where ASA/XJT is at now? I know Comair is a lot smaller and are wholly owned by DAL, but in terms of position, what's the difference? The combined company at ASA has 356 50 seaters. I realize these are spread out between the two largest majors (UAL and DAL) but is it just me or is this one giant target? I realize UAL could give in a little on scope and they could all of a sudden get a ton of 70/90 seaters (not that that would be good for career progression), but as it stands now, fuel prices are still increasing.

Did Delta own Comair then? Comair didn't have a problem with Delta pilots flying their jets. The problem was that DALPA wanted their guys to retain their seniority numbers and have their pilots move right into the 70s at higher pay, which would have most likely put Comair guys out of work. Catch 22.

Delta owns Comair. They can do whatever they want with it, including reducing the fleet, without having tk pay for it. Delta's contract with other contractors requires acostly buyout to reduce flying. In short, reducing Comair's fleet was convenient.
I wouldn't count on Delta renewing any 50 seat contracts but I think existing contracts are safe.

ok then, 2 questions. First, when is ASA's 50 seat contract up with Delta? Second, if Delta wants to get rid of 50 seaters and is starting with Comair, why are some of Comairs old routes being flown by 50 seaters from other DCI carriers? Are there reductions elsewhere that we just can't see?

Either way asa/xjt will have more 50 seaters than most regionals have total aircraft and will only have about 50 or so 70 seaters. That means, 85% of the new asa is "toxic" flying.
