I wasn't there either. Were you? If the Captain was correct in having these passengers removed then why all the company PR or apologizing for the inconvenience and putting them on the next flight?

If these guys were as dangerous as the astute captain thought they were, wouldn't they be on the next non-stop to gitmo?

this story just further fuels the impression that we pilots are a bunch of uneducated, ignorant rednecks in the publics eye... which further fuels the idea that we're over paid drivers these days... it's sad that the PIC lacked the judgement to put together that these two older men were clearly not a threat... after a 2nd screening to boot. I mean seriously.. who's going to hi jack a freak'n RJ from MEM to CHS anyway?? Give me a break. I guess it made him feel so empowered to do this.. thanks for yet another dent in the "profession".

So much of this story reminds me of the "Beer Summet".

Obama said he did not know much about the case, but he went on to cast his judgement that "they acted stupidly."

In this case, we don't know all the facts and it will probably be a while until we do. Therefore, it would be wise to hold one's judgement (and tounge) until we know more.

With that being said... within the month, I almost had to remove a passenger for "not complying with a crewmember's instructions." That is the only criteria I as PIC needed to know from my Flight Attendant to be authorized by the FAA and my company to deny transportation.

This passenger refused to comply with the Flight Attendant's instructions required for a safe takeoff. It was this persons BEHAVIOR that was unsafe and they refused to comply with a simple (and REQUIRED) safety precaution. Once I turned the aircraft around to return to the gate (showing we were serious about complying with the FARs) they complied and changed their BEHAVIOR.

I would like to know about the behavior of these two gentlemen in question on the airplane that were heading to a CONFERENCE about Islamaphobia. Has that been covered? Or is it all about the pilot? I truely do not know (I have not followed the story that closely), but it has gotten the two some free press, hasn't it.

Curious...

Well "gee", during the coverage of the significant news in THIS country, CNN and Fox still found time to cover the lunatic fringe minority in other countries that were cheering on the attacks. Yet, they didn't find the time to report on what was actually going on in those same countries?

There was plenty of other "less significant news" being reported, not to mention television commercials. Please impart us with your wisdom on which stories were relevant enough to report.

Furthermore, how many died from anthrax? One reporter in Florida?

Maybe the next time you post, you'll have a point.

I never said they were, it's blatantly obvious that they were in fact not a threat. That's not the point. It's about not playing the odds, something you should know quite a bit about as a Captain considering it's a concept which should be an integral part of your daily decision making processes. Monday morning quarterback your colleagues who erred on the side of safety is beyond cheap shot. And like it or not, they ARE your colleagues.

My sincere apologies, Olympic. You caught me on a bad night. My wife has always said that "...it (anything) is always black & white with you..." Guess sarcasm get by me too often. We probably agree on a whole lotta' things.
Cheers,
Chuck

Arguing with a guy named Left Wing about the validity of Fox News is an exercise in futility. You'll hate them no matter what.

That was stated pretty clearly in my previous post, sorry if you're having difficulty understanding...

My APC handle? Really? Is that all ya got? Besides, I said Fox as well as CNN. Nice attempt at a strawman argument as well as a distraction from the topic. Are you compensating for a sense of not being able to keep up?

Actually, obfuscation and an inability to stay on topic is not clarity.....at least not in my book.
