Attention Regional Pilots
#31
The American public has no idea how little the guy sitting in the right seat of that regional jet makes.
Every time I tell someone I'm an airline pilot they think I'm making $80k or more a year.
I sometimes wonder if ALPA does not want to upset mainline by showing the American public how little their pilots make. Is there a conflict of interest here?

The whole thing is hopeless, unless you can get every regional pilot, at every airline that is making crap pay to stop flying and demand more pay (unrealistic goal). Then you'd have to prevent all those fresh com/instrument students from offering to fill those slots. I highly doubt there will ever be a huge pilot shortage. Most the airlines I talk to are still getting stacks of resumes. Southwest gets like qualified 10000 applications for 100 slots. Even if the other airlines only get 1/4th as many applicants that is still 2500 applicants for 100 slots, I just don't see it happning.

Sorry Wiley Two...it wasn't 150k-180k, I was wrong...it is 180K to 206K per annum...and what are all you RICH people, flying for Republic, and Compass making? Just waiting for the HOLY FLOW, to fly for peanuts on a DC-9 for Delta, and then watch them cut salaries, and go bankrupt? OK, stay with your Company (Mr, H?), and watch your benefits, salaries, and pensions disappear Westbound. The Dream is over...grab opportunities whilst you can. There are OTHER dreams. Sam

If you're making poor wages, your only leverage is to embarass the companies that take advanage of you in this manner. Take out full page ads in ATL, MSP, MEM, SLC, NYC newspapers and let the public know that Delta Connection pilots qualify for food stamps. The flying public doesn't want to read this and neither does Delta or your management. Does anybody recall all the rage regarding Colgan 3407 and the pay/working conditions that this tragedy exposed? The public was outraged for about two days, but then they forgot just as quickly. We need to maintain the pressure and public outrage to bring about change. If you're seriously relying on management to fix the integrity of this profession, then I foresee a lot of Ramen noodles and PB&J sandwiches in your future dietary plans.

My f/o the other day did some math. We transported over 30,000 people last year. My f/o made less than $1/passenger he moved.
Not to mention the endless nights in crappy hotels, crap airport food, time in simulator, medicals, blah blah blah.....
Pay cut? Ha up yours.

This could be our opportunity to stand up for ourselves and the future generations of regional pilots.
We need to make a statement that we are done being thrown into the fire every time there has to be cuts. WE are not the ones responsible for the failing of these companies.
I hope 100% of PNCL pilots vote NO to Pay Cuts. I hope that 100% of other regionals vote NO to Pay Cuts.
As some background I will probably be furloughed if PNCL declares BK. I understand that, I'm just sick of my fellow pilots, colleagues, and friends getting shafted in this industry.

Baggage fees and fuel surcharges are some of the methods the airlines uses to survive. I think once the pilot group realizes that WE are the rare commodity to the company and hardest (takes longest) to replace, then the airlines will tack on a $5 fee for the crew. Whether the public likes it or not, that should be set in place by all airlines just like taxes and 3816 surcharges the pax are exposed to already.
Sounds like a dream far fetched but with the massive retirements, lowest cpl issuances in decades and the 1500 hour rules going in effect, perhaps the golden era part 2 will commence for us within the next 5-10 years!!!
