Well, there USED to be. Not sure anymore. I was based in LaGarbage from 2000-2002 and there was then.
It's an easier/facetious was to cover BOTH sayings of rocket science/brain surgery
I agree it's challenging for a new guy. Going into a high density airport, being offside, still trying to get used to the airplane, etc. If you CFI'd it's akin to taking a primary student to new airport the first time, etc.
But again, a GOOD LCA can make it A LOT less drama a micro managing type by just using the KISS principle.

Some instructors, yes. Many are not CFI's and fail to understand that everyone learns at a different rate. It's not just regionals either, if you're not comfortable with CBT learning and testing online, then you are in trouble.
Many hiring managers and recruiters with whom I have met indicate a steep learning curve for those that have little/no jet and glass cockpit time.

Here are the reasons I've seen:
Difficulty learning the FMS.
Not current going into training and falling behind the curve a bit as a result.
Getting sick and falling behind.
Poor sim partner.
Poor instructor or one I know many who failed because of, an instructor with a chip on their shoulder looking to wash people out.
Entitlement attitude although I've only seen that in one occasion.
Lack of instrument skills.
I think often it's more than one reason. Sort of like an accident chain. Break one of those reasons and the failure doesn't occur. It's not like everyone that passes, sails through without difficulty.

Along the same lines, having the Chief Pilot get a call during ground school from someone who noticed some odd behavior and put 2 and 2 together and knew who they were and what was going on and happened to be friends with the chief pilot. Resulted in a massive washout at my company about 6 years ago or so. All but one were fired and the one was not present for the shenanigans.
Have fun with your class and all, but do anything which will result in a call to your employer. Ever.
