Colgan Rumor
#11
Guys this isn't far fetched. This "rumor" is straight from the MEC, but something has been left out. Once again, strajght from the MEC, if Corp declares bankruptcy then it is said that Colgan/Mesaba will be gone. Bankruptcy must be declared first and a furlough out of senority must be approved by the judge. There is a similar scenario going on at Eagle with the parking of the ATR's. The company will protest the cost of retraining all pilots and ask for the judge to allow the furloughs. But first they must be under chapter 11 protection.

Look at it this way, they close Colgan, the 340 are out and the Q's goes to Pinnacle.
Now Pinnacle has no Q's on its certificate and no training set up. after they get a training program in place all of the pilots would have to go to indoc and full training all over again. Now they have the same mess as before.

I still think it's a scare tactic. the Colgan pilots had the most to gain from the new contract, they also have the most to lose, reverting back to the old days. These pilots are probably the most opposed to cooperation. it doesn't surprise me that this rumor suddenly appears...

At eagle we have a similar setup, the props are on a separate certificate because the ATR and the crews are certified to do ETOPS and the certificate allows for operations in North America, Central American, South American, Bahamas and the Caribbean. The executive certificate is extremely valuable so they haven't kicked it to the curb.

I encourage everyone to listen to what the MEC has to say before making up you mind on a vote (if it happens). Not telling you how to vote. There are some serious plans/ramifications here. We are one pilot group.

It could explain why they held some of the training off so long and why the company/union really could care less that a lot of guys don't have the time to hold the upgrade. They know that it is a moot point and plan on **** canning the ole SF34. That is also why the planes that Mesaba parked went to DTW instead of going to BNA for conformity to 9E?

Don't be so quick to dispel this rumor. Maybe not furlough out of order, but canning Colgan. It has been widely suggested that the Saabs won't be around at all. Why would the company keep another cert. just for the Q's?? Also, it is the easiest way that the company can do an end around on the fences. The craziest rumors are always the ones with the most truth.
Republic is going to buy Colgan to use the Qs to augment the four they already have. In a fit of guilt over how they treated their former colleagues, they will re-hire all the Midwest pilots to fly the Saabs. The good news for current Saab pilots is they will receive preferential hiring status ... as Flight Attendants.

It's a scare tactic. If 'small' concessions from the pilot group are all that's keeping this company afloat... there's bigger problems to be had. Don't give an inch fellas!!
