Default ALPA not so Good for Mesaba . . .

Summary Box: Judge rules Mesaba can reject contracts
10/16/2006, 6:19 p.m. ET
The Associated Press

(AP) — LEGAL WRANGLE: A bankruptcy judge on Monday granted Mesaba Aviation Inc.'s request to dump its union contracts. The airline says it needs to cut labor costs 17.5 percent to survive

NEXT STEPS: Unions vow they'll strike if Mesaba imposes terms. The same judge has a hearing Tuesday on the airline's request to block such a strike.

Yep . . Job Security at it's finest!

Ellen, when a company wants to commit suicide and the American judiciary helps, there is nothing anyone can do. Get a clue.

Go shill for management elsewhere.

Management at other carriers are prepared to give these guys interview slots, because they have the 121 experience. Most will not be without someplace to go.

Let's wait and see if the judge "forbids" Mesaba labor to strike like was done with the NWA flight attendants.

ALPA and the other Mesaba unions can't do jack when the judiciary forces labor to abide by the RLA but throws it out for management.

They can do "Jack." They can all quit and go home. Not even the judge can stop them from quitting.

I agree.

But resigning isn't anything ALPA can cause, recommend or create.

Hmm, what action has ALPA taken which is not in the best intrest of Mesaba Pilots?

In fact what action do you specify that ALPA has taken?

They say that if the company does not honor the contract which the company signed, they will not work. A reasonable proposition.

If my tenant decides not to pay rent, or pay a unilaterally lowered amount despite our signed contract, I will be entirely within my rights to evict him.

Or perhaps you are asserting that a Unionized work force is bad for the Stakeholders... which is moronic.

What is really bad for Mesaba is incompetent upper management. Two or three idiots at the top will bring a company down a thousand times faster than a hundred at the bottom.

Default They should walk!

"The only way that Mesaba is going to be able to pull out of this mess is to get a deal done," Kris Pierson, a pilots union spokesman, said ahead of the hearing. "Imposed terms will not work for the labor groups at Mesaba, whether there's a strike injunction or not."

Union officials said they expected many employees to resign if the airline gets its injunction and imposes terms.

That statement was based on a survey that was done in the late spring/early summer where 68ish% of the PILOTS SURVEYED indicated that they would "immediately" resign if terms were imposed.

We all know it is easy to say/feel that way in the heat of the moment. When it comes right down to quitting and trying to find another job, the "immediate" might become more loosely defined.

Actually ALPA at Mesaba is one of the finest examples of union bargining at work. The fact that so many people are willing to call it quits says nothing of ALPA, but rather how managment has driven that company into the ground.

Just got off the phone with a good friend that is one of the strike center coordinators. Sounds to me like the union is doing it's very best to protect the contract.
