With your situation it probably doesn't matter either way... you will get some 121 time.. get current, and see what flying Pax is all about. However, I would probably choose any of the big players if I could live in base. NOT commuting will make a year or two stay at the regional level semi bearable. Hopefully then in a couple years as the age 65 retirements materialize... with some recent 121 time and your military background you very well might get picked up early in that hiring cycle. Right now that is probably the best you can expect. Good luck......

What do you think about working for a DOD contractor flying Kingairs in Afghanistan? I have a pretty good shot at getting hired by one. The paycheck would be MUCH bigger, and I would get plenty of TPIC. Just not 121 time. I've heard a variety of opinions on this subject.

I'd say it certainly couldn't hurt to do that. The only thing with those DOD gigs out there is they usually come with a set time you have to stay with them. Certainly better paying than a regional, and since you're former military being away from home wouldn't be a shock to you.

No, I've got contacts at Avenge, and I expect a call from them in the next couple of months. I think my chances are good (no guarantees of course). I did apply to Dynamic and never heard anything back. Same story with L3.

With all of the AD ISR folks separating now I think you're only way in is knowing someone. I take any of the DOD contractors doing ISR work in a heart beat!

Not always..I had an interview with an ISR outfit recently and I did not know anyone over there, nor am I ex military.

I ended up turning down the interview, wanted longer tours and less time off in order to make more money and stay out of the country, this place was 75/75 and I was looking for more of 60/30.

Isn't this like one of those "would you rather?" like questions? Asking between Republic or Colgan is kinda like would you rather drink rat poison or raw sewage.

Having worked at both, I'd normally advise one to choose the one with the easiest commute.

However, given your unique circumstances, I'd say go with Republic. They're currently hiring into the 170. Given that you're looking to get current and get out, and the fact that you listed Jet Blue as somewhere that you're interested, the 170 experience will boost your resume.

Further, with the talk of furloughs at Pinnacle, I'd be hesitant to go there when RAH is planning to hire 400 through year end. Your relative seniority will move up at RAH quickly on the 170 as they hire underneath you, you'll get 170 time which can help your applications to Jet Blue and US Air, should either of those interest you, and you won't be worried about a furlough after training.

Thanks for the advice. I was kind of leaning that way, but the only thing that gives me heartburn about RAH is the 2-year training contract.
