If they do decide to drop the support someone else will pick up the slack in the private market and make a profit on it. I dealt with Rockwell Collins on a daily basis in a past life and they sure do make a ton. Plus I don't think it would be hard for them to come up with a retrofit that is cost effective if they really wanted to.

So I can conclude that most of you feel that there is a good chance that 9E won't have any aircraft based in ATL in the future?
I'm wondering because we are seriously considering moving there soon. |

(per Wikipedia) There are some 530 Saabs and Brasillias total. Assuming an EFIS lifespan of, say, five years, and two per plane, that means about 210 replaced each year. Is that enough to sustain support and manufacturing? Only Collins would know, but it does seem to be a pretty small number to me. In the end, I'll believe they are gone when I get displaced. |
