You will not be able to collect from the state you live in. You must collect from the state where you were based. Thats where your company paid into the unemployment system on your behalf If you changed bases in the last 18 months, you can collect from either state, so pick the one that pays most.

Unfortunately...I've been unemployed several times. I got pretty good at filing. Call your home state and ask to speak with a supervisor who knows how to do an interstate claim. That person can look on the computer and tell you where all your earnings came from. She should point you in the right direction...and you basically can file at any of the places that pay the most...so hopefully you were based in NJ.
