5 years or not, unless the question on the app or in the interview references the last 5 years, why lie? Man up and be honest.

Does this only apply for 121 checkrides? I mean the 5 year thing, what about 91 initial training busts?

Just a side note to this discussion. There comes a time when the check airman's critique is just an opinion. With 30 years and about 20,000 hours I don't have to accept everything the check pilot says. We are both experts and by this time I know what's important and what's not. Some things are blatant mistakes and there's no way to get around it but there are several ways to skin a cat. His method may not be more valid than yours.

Stick by your guns if you're right. Just make sure you are right.

Apparently, the FAA is rethinking what type of pilot record items will be subject to expunction after 5 years and which ones will be retained forever. It will be interesting to see what happens and which records will now be kept on file forever.

I heard this rumor floating around the training dept for a bit now. I found this on the FAA's website but I couldn't find very much more info on the topic.

I agree completely!

I instructed and checked in the sim for 8 or so years. The advantage, as it was explained to me, of having a Company Check Airman vs. a Fed, is that a Company CAM and stop the sim, explain the situation, retrain then check again. As has been mentioned that only works about 3 times.

The "stump the dummy" CAM memorize a few killer oral questions, and set up scenarios that increase your chances of failing in the sim. Everyone can bust any sim ride if the CAM decides to fail him or her. And it IS a reflection of the CAM, not your performance. Some CAM get into the training department for exactly the wrong reasons.

I would talk to your union Training Committee and see if there have been other such failures or issues with your specific CAM.

I sorta had a theory. You could show up with a great attitude and marginal skills and pass the ride. You could show up with great skills and a p!ss poor attitude and pass the ride. But the folks that showed up completely unprepared, had a p!ss poor attitude and showed marginal skills, those guys were probably going down.

I too think you'll be fine Regional.

He's been around for a while. I'll probably be out the door before he will be, and if that's the case, I'll consider myself successful.
