1. Aren't you the kid that cried in class when you didn't get the Q?
2. Why don't you go to SkyWest, Express, Compass ect... They're all hiring. Or do you just like the fact RAH interview pay and work rules are a joke.
3. GSO, can close any time or re-base you to an out station. That's RAH's MO.
4. Don't cry if they put you into a 145 instead of a shiny 170...

I see whats up here, either
1) You wanted to work at RAH, and they never called you
2) They called you and you failed the interview
3) You think SKW is the best thing since sliced bread, but they will furlough you if they want to.
4) Your a Riddle Rat!

Really? REALLY dude? I mean... REALLY?
He already said he was in the 170. Did you even read the reason why he left? Did you even read the reason why he chose RAH?
DB award of the week contender right here. Don't cry if you don't get it. Grow up kid. Put some zip juice on that acne. Stop undercutting this profession. When I was your age, I had to have 15,000 hours to get hired.

I'm in the June 25th republic class for the e170. I know a lot of people say that republic opens and closes bases a good amount. My main reason coming here, 1 because pinnacle is going down. And 2 because I live near GSO and that would be the main reason. From your take is GSO a pretty stable base for the time being? Do they have a good amount of flying out of there? And is it a pretty good chance of getting it out of class?
Thanks
Thanks
GSO is a TINY TINY (did I mention tiny?) base. There is not much flying out of there. Only 18 FOs are currently based there. It's a VERY junior base overall and your odds of getting it out of training are VERY good.
Because GSO lacks enough flying to sustain itself, the pairing quality suffers tremendously. There are ZERO 4-day pairings for June and only a handful 3-day trips. Most trips are day trips and 2-day trips. Expect the 2-day trips to have an early show (some as early as 4:35am) to finish as late as midnight on day two. Most trips are fairly unproductive and average daily credit is chronically low, so expect to have min days off when you finally get to be a line holder. Reserve callout is 1:30, so hopefully you live within 1:30 drive from the airport. Otherwise crashpad/hotel is going to be extremely frequent for you.
It's not uncommon for people to choose to commute from GSO to another base for better trips, rather than be based at home.

dunno if thats the wisest option...thats a huge cost for only being a 1:30 drive. Id maybe chill in a cheap hotel the first month or two of reserve to see how it goes. After that, just relax at home in with the uniform and bag ready.

Only reason I say that is got some buddies in GSO so apartment split wouldn't be to bad. Gonna try to get a part time or something at a Golf course. Can't go wrong playing free golf while on your reserve

GSO is a very senior base for the captains and for the most part junior for the FO's. I think there are a couple way senior FO's who are there because they live in base, but the turnover at the bottom of the FO list is pretty high. Lots of people are sent there out of training but bolt at the first opportunity.
As was said, it is an outstation base. Historically a multi-day trip will start way early, then there will be a long layover somewhere, flipping the clock so it will end way late. It is a very impractical commuter base.
Also historically low trip credit, as was also said. Some of the guys who live in base bid reserve, preferring it to back-to-back 2-days followed by a day-trip every week in order to meet the minimum line value.
The crews there are a very tight knit group. Very friendly. I don't miss RAH but I do miss them.
RAH has had a base of some kind there since 2003, but the way RAH opens and closes bases, nobody, not even Vegas, will take bets on any RAH base's potential longevity. In '09, I believe it was, they closed the CHQ 145 base in favor of the RW 170 base. Half the captains and all the FO's were displaced.
Bottom line: you will be flying bad trips with good people for as long as the base stays open. Life will be good if you drive to base and hellish if you try to commute.
